The place where Beijing 798 Art District is located is the "Beijing North China Radio united equipment factory", namely 718 United Factory, which was built during the first five year plan period of new China. 718 United Factory was approved by Premier Zhou Enlai, under the command of minister Wang Zheng, and with the aid of the former Soviet Union and democratic Germany.

In 1952, the United Plant was built in Jiuxianqiao area, which has no industrial foundation in the suburbs of Beijing. In 1954, civil construction began. In October 1957, the state leaders attended the commencement ceremony and announced the commencement of production.

Its speed is rare in the early days of the founding of the people's Republic of China. It embodies the hard work of the old generation of leaders and builders. In Jiuxianqiao area, 774 and 738 factories are planned to be built together with 718 United Factory. Architectural design

718 United Factory is one of 156 key projects during the first five year plan period and one of the projects aided by the socialist camp. Due to its leading position in the electronics industry in this camp, East Germany has been given the task of building a joint factory. At that time, ersner, Deputy Prime Minister of East Germany, personally took charge of the project and completed the project with the technology, experts and equipment production line of all East Germany. Because there are no factories of the same scale in East Germany, ersner organized authoritative experts from 44 institutes and factories in East Germany to set up a 718 Joint Factory engineering support group, and finally gathered the power of East Germany's electronic industry, including technology, experts and equipment production lines, to complete this grand project with utopian ideals. Li Rui, the first director of 718 United Factory, said in the article: "I have seen more than 20 factories in Germany, and none of them has such a scale. As far as I know, factories of this size are rare in the Soviet Union and other socialist countries. " Dessau, an architectural institution, is responsible for the huge architectural design of the United Factory. It is in the same city as Bauhaus school in that year, and they share the same architectural spirit.

In 1919, Gropius founded Bauhaus school in Weimar, Germany. Under the influence of abstract art, a new style of Arts and crafts and architecture was born.
