There is a narrow wooden bridge across the wide river under the north gate, with stone piers. Both of them have to cross on their sides. This used to be the only way out of the city.
Clingnancourt
The north gate is the north gate of runing city in Ming Dynasty, which is now located in the north of Runan County. It is 38 meters deep in the north and 4.4 meters wide in the East and West.
In the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty, the east gate, the west gate and the south gate were built. In the eighth year of Hongwu, the north gate was added, which was called Beigong. The gate is 7.5 meters high with brick arches. North by Ru water, relying on natural shielding. In the 20th year of Chenghua, an additional urn gate was built to form the urn city with the walls on the East and west sides. The urn gate is 38 meters deep from north to south, 4.4 meters wide from east to west, and 4.1 meters high inside, with brick arches on the top. On the gate of the city, heavy buildings were built and garrisoned. In the ninth year of Zhengde, the third year of Longqing, the eighteenth year of Shunzhi, the first year of Kangxi, and the seventh year of Yongzheng, it was reinforced many times because of the war. In 1941, the Kuomintang troops forced the city walls and gates, leaving only the beiwengmen. In 1986, the north gate was rebuilt, and two gold characters "North arch" were carved on it, which made it magnificent.
