Cultural scenery
The eastern suburb park of Sai Kung has a long coastline. In the past, most of the villagers lived here for a living by fishing, but the agriculture was not well developed. The lime production industry was once very prosperous because of the local materials along the coast and the coral skeleton as raw materials. The ancient village of Shangyao is an important place for the industry.
About 16 villages along the east coast of Saigon have been recorded for nearly half a century. Among them, Luhu and pokwu Wan have been completely abandoned. Langqia has become a youth drug treatment center. Lanniwan village has been submerged due to the construction of Wanyi reservoir. Shangyao village has been transformed into Shangyao folk culture museum. Besides beitanao and jiaoliuwan villages, there are only one or several families in the remaining villages, some of which provide catering services for holiday visitors.
Wanyi reservoir is the largest reservoir in Hong Kong. It is the largest artificial building in the park. Wanyi reservoir is a popular stone viewing resort, and it is also the location of the most peculiar geological landscape in Hong Kong. Wanyi Dongba's unique huge anchor shaped breakwater, together with the adjacent pobianzhou and the nearby rhyolitic tuff with hexagonal columnar joints, forms a unique landscape, which is attractive to both tourists and academic researchers.
ecological environment
Botany
The mountain area of Saigon east suburb wild park is rich in grassland, and most of the mountain top is covered by grassland. The main grasses on the grassland are shizhenmang, Yazui and tiemangji. Under the hillside of the shrub, common are wild peony, Myrtle (Myrtle), pine, Eurya tenuifolia and big tea. Some rare plant species, such as pendula, Lilium davidii and Podocarpus arvensis, will also be found. In addition, the long and winding coastline also provides a variety of coastal environments for some unique and interesting plant growth.
animal
In the shrubbery, it is easy to see the Bulbul eating the berries on the trees, while the birds such as the brown winged cuckoo (pheasant), the great tit, the dark green embroidered eye (Acacia) and the magpie often appear in the dense trees. The ancient Fengshui forest is favored by some winter migratory birds, such as thrushes from South China. Kingfisher often forages in rivers and streams. In addition, most of the larger wild animals are mostly nocturnal, so they are rarely found. In this area, porcupine, pangolin, civet, Chinese leopard cat, wild boar and Python have been seen.
Park facilities
The famous MacLehose trail starts from beitanyong, bypasses the south of Wanyi reservoir, crosses eight country parks and ends at Tuen Mun in the West. The first and second sections of MacLehose path are located in Sai Kung East country park. Most of the first section of Mai path is a gentle path. There are many branches along the way, which can lead to the villages along the coast. The strange rocks and rocks along the coast, together with the beautiful scenery of Langjia beach, are fascinating. The second section of Mai path starts from langqie. After crossing Xiwan mountain, you can enjoy the magnificent scenery of big wave four Bay, and the sharp and straight snake tip stands behind the bay. Beitanao is the terminal of this section.
There are also four country trails in the park. Luhu country trail is designed for energetic and experienced hikers with beautiful scenery, overlooking Wanyi reservoir and Ma'anshan in Qingshuiwan peninsula. Beitan country trail used to be an ancient rural road. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of jiaoxizhou, yantianzi, qiaozui and yuyuweng. The whole section of Shangshan trail is a gentle one, overlooking the inland waters of Saigon, such as chachu Bay, Yantian Tsai and Kau Sai Chau.
In addition, beitanyong nature education trail provides an outdoor education place. The trail starts from North Tam Chung, passes through the beach and ends at the upper Folk Museum in Sai Kung country park. Along the way, you can learn about the common plants in the beach wetland, such as mangroves and pandanus trees, as well as the native plants with economic value in the past agricultural society, such as bamboo, sycamore and Yaxiang trees.
In order to make it convenient for families to share the fun of nature, the park is equipped with Shangyao Jiale path and Huangshi Jiale path, along which there are rest places. Generally, it only takes one or two hours to walk. There are also two tree study paths, located at Tai Tan and Huangshi. These paths are short. You can see interesting tree species along the path. There are signboards on the paths to provide information about trees.
famous scenery
Sai Kung East country park is not only the country park with the largest number of bays. Among them, Sai Wan is the most famous Bay in Hong Kong. It is also known as the four big waves Bay in Sai Kung, together with the adjacent salt fields, big waves and East Bay. Many visitors are attracted to it by hiking or yachting.
Xiwan has a unique terrain, which is subdivided into two bays, the north and the south. The beach in the south is quiet. When the south wind blows in summer, it will not make huge waves, so it is most suitable for yachts to park. The beach in the North Bay is broad, with layers of waves coming to the shore. Inland, there is the famous downstream outlet of Shuanglu Shijian, and the sidie Lake in the middle of Shijian also attracts many visitors.
There are many species of scientific value in the ridge of Dalang Bay, including some plants that can grow in the special environment with extremely high salinity in the sand layer at the bottom of the beach, such as the protected Cymbidium micranthum, and the rare plant Corallium. Therefore, the bay is listed as a site of special scientific value.
Liangchuanwan scenic area is located in the eastern suburb park of Sai Kung, about 20 km away from the city center of Sai Kung. The coastal area of liangchuanwan is full of orderly, nearly vertical and towering polygonal (usually hexagonal) volcanic pillars. Among them, Huashan has the highest volcanic pillar in Hong Kong with a height of 100 meters, which can be called "natural hexagonal pillar mural". In addition, Wanyi geological trail and interpretation board are set up in the east dam of Wanyi reservoir to introduce a variety of interesting geomorphological landscapes, including faults, twisted rock pillars, intrusive dikes and sea erosion pillars of broken banks. In addition, the coast of dalangwan shows the coastal landform composed of volcanic pillars. It has been selected as the first of "ten sights of Hong Kong" by tourists for many times.
The best of Parks
At 468 meters high, the serpentine tip, though only the 16th highest peak in Hong Kong, has become the most visible landmark in Sai Kung's eastern suburb park due to its steep and prominent shape.
If you want to go to the snake tip, you need to have rich hiking experience, good physical strength and endurance, but the effort is absolutely worth the price.
Along the second section of MacLehose path, starting from beitanao, passing through chijing, and climbing to dalangao, you can see the beautiful scenery of the bay. You can continue to push towards the serpentine concave, and walk along the sloping and gravel covered mountain path. It's really a step-by-step move. However, when you arrive at the serpentine tip, you can stand at one of the best places in Hong Kong to enjoy the coastal scenery and enjoy the magnificent scenery of dalangsiwan, It is self-evident.
The four big wave bays are Xiwan, Xiantian, Dalang and Dongwan. Because they are located in a remote place and are rarely visited on weekdays, they still retain a strong primitive flavor. It is refreshing to see the continuous fine sand being beaten by waves. The beach here is wide, the sand is fine and soft, the sea water is clean, and the waves are turbulent, which are unmatched by other beaches. In the south of dalangwan, there is a bay named langqia Bay, which is adjacent to Wanyi reservoir in the West. The bay is deep and concave. The bay is large and narrow. The headlands on both sides face each other, resisting the wind and waves from the open sea into the bay. Therefore, langqia Bay is calm and quiet, which is suitable for ordinary tourists to take a sea bath.
