brief introduction
Hong Sheng Temple in Wan Chai is located at 129 Wan Chai Road East, Hong Kong. After more than 100 years of changes and a number of reclamation projects, it has been surrounded by modern buildings, which is particularly prominent. It is listed as a class I cultural relic.
In the early days of Hong Kong's opening, the area south of Johnston Road used to be a shoal. In front of Hongsheng temple, it used to be a seaside. This simple ancient temple with only one hall used to overlook the whole bay.
There was a time when Wan Chai was regarded by Lin Zexu as the base of the number one tobacco dealer. Britain is an Englishman and an opium dealer. From 1835 to 1839, Britain used Wan Chai as its drug trafficking base. Around 1924, the Hong Kong government flattened Morrison Hill and filled Wan Chai Bay, which changed the appearance of Wan Chai District and made the old Hong Sheng Temple near the sea look like it is located in Queen's road today.
Today's Hongsheng ancient temple is built close to the mountain. In the temple, King Hongsheng is worshipped. King Hongsheng is the God of the South China Sea. Together with empress Tianhou, he is the favorite God of fishermen. Next to Hongsheng ye, the gods such as Lady Jinhua, Taisui and Baogong are worshipped. Outside the temple, there are the gods of sheji and Lu Ban.
Due to geographical constraints, Hongsheng temple is only a one-way temple. There are stone railings in front of the temple, rising from the left and right sides. The stone steps on the stone railings have a history of hundreds of years. On the forehead are carved couplets rebuilt in 1860 and 1867. From the seat of the temple, we can also see the unique construction mode of Jushi jielou. It is not too much to say that it is built according to the mountain.

The temple was founded before 1847. It was rebuilt in 1860. It was taken over by Donghua in 1930. In 1971, the Chinese Temples Committee again authorized Donghua to manage temples.
Architectural features
On the stone column, a couplet of temples is carved: "the ancient Temple Street is new, the Haiyan river is pure and holy; the lower ring is full of wealth, and the people are well-off and blessed by heaven."
