Baxianling Country Park

Baxianling Country Park (designated on 7 April 1978) is one of the country parks in Hong Kong. It is located in baxianling in the northeast of the new territories, covering an area of 3125 hectares, adjacent to the nearby chuanwan country park. The highest elevation of baxianling mountain is more than 550 meters, overlooking the ups and downs of the mountains and the beautiful scenery of Tolo harbor. In addition, bride's pool in the country park is also a major attraction. The baxianling special area is also located in the baxianling country park.

A mountain fire occurred at about 17:00 on February 2014. As of 19:00 on February 3, 2014, the mountain fire continued to burn for more than a day and has not been put out, but the fire line has gradually narrowed, there is no news of casualties, and the cause of the fire has not been identified.

Established in 1978, baxianling country park covers an area of 3125 hectares. Baxianling is named after Baxian for its eight continuous peaks, with Chunyang peak as the main peak. Other famous peaks are Huangling, Pingfeng mountain, Jiulongkeng mountain and guitouling.

Experienced hikers can try sections 9 and 10 of Wilson path across baxianling country park. Walking along the ridges of Huangling, Libi mountain and baxianling, you can have a panoramic view of the vast countryside, the rolling mountains and the magnificent scenery of chuanwan freshwater lake on a clear day. On a clear day, you can also have a panoramic view of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. The conglomerate at the top of baxianling is a famous crown rock in geography.

In the south of baxianling country park, there are Sha Luodong, the hometown of dragonflies, Ting Kok wetland, a place of special scientific value, and in the north, there are egret paradise, salt stove and its Fengshui forest. The barbecue and country grounds on bride's pool road, Chung Bei and Chung Wei barbecue grounds, are also within the scope of baxianling country park.

From Dawei du to the peak, the mountain path is steep and circuitous. When you get to the ridge, the path rises and falls, with cliffs in the South and mountains in the north. Straight ahead, the "Eight Immortals" will appear one by one. It takes a lot of effort to climb every mountain.

Every mountain in baxianling is a good place to enjoy the urban and rural scenery of Hong Kong at the same time, and Huangling is no exception. This wind and rain eroded mountain is covered with sand and gravel, overlooking the natural beauty. In the distance, there is a view of the urban area of the new territories.

To the south of Huangling is Shaluo cave. There are many abandoned rice fields and villages in the deep valley. To the north of Huangling, behind the mountains, is Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. When you go hiking in baxianling, you usually have a rest in Huangling and other mountains. This is a popular place for local nature lovers. In the area of liushuixiang and Heshu reservoir, there are many plantation areas and forested valleys. There are many native and exotic tree species. In spring, the valley is decorated with colorful rhododendrons and other flowering shrubs. The beautiful trees such as willow and Keteleeria oleifera are planted beside the pond, which is full of poetic and picturesque scenery.

The trees in the pond area are also important habitats for birds, including red eared Bulbul, white headed Bulbul, thrush, Magpie Robin, partridge, quail, Common Kingfisher, magpie, myna and crow. Porcupine, pangolin, civet, leopard cat and red muntjac can be found in liushuixiang, Heshu and baxianling forest areas.

Park facilities

Baxianling country park not only has baxianling and pingfengshan, but also has liushuixiang reservoir and Hesu reservoir. It is adjacent to chuanwan sea. It is suitable for both mountains and rivers. The facilities for outing can meet the needs of different people at one time. There are tourist center, nature education path and barbecue facilities in the park. At the same time, there are a number of different difficulty routes, including Hesu country trail, liushuixiang country trail, Nanchong country trail, Hesu Shuitang Jiale trail, Fengkeng Jiale trail, baxianling nature education trail, and Yongbei tree study trail. The challenging sections 9 and 10 (terminal) of weiyixin trail are also located in this country park.

Barbecue and outing sites are set up beside the pleasant and tranquil Hesu reservoir and shuishuixiang reservoir, as well as Yongbei and Yongwei by bridal pool road, which are frequently used by tourists during holidays. Besides Yongwei, camping sites are also set up at the other three sites.

If you want to see the magnificent mountains and rivers, you have to work hard to climb baxianling. Baxianling mountain road goes along the ridge of continuous mountains. The mountains on both sides are towering and steep, and the scenery is completely unobstructed. When you are in it, you feel like an eagle flying in the sky. The scenery on both sides of the ridge is a marvelous sight. It's a rough road.

Baxianling is the central point of baxianling country park. Many mountain paths can lead to baxianling, but the safer route is the ninth and tenth sections of weiyixin path which have been opened up and have clear road signs. These two sections, from kengshan to Nanchong, pass baxianling, with a total length of 17.4 km. It takes seven hours to complete the whole journey. We must do what we can. The route starts from Jiulongkeng mountain, goes down to Hesu reservoir, climbs up to Pingfeng mountain, goes eastward along the ridge, first passes Huangling and Libi mountain, then challenges the eight peaks of baxianling mountain, then goes northward to abandoned villages at the foot of Hengshan Mountain and xiaqimuqiao, passes Sir Youde Memorial Pavilion, and finally reaches Nanchong.

In addition, from the opposite direction, you can go straight up to baxianling from dameidu country park management station, climb Chunyang peak through chunfengting, climb through Libi mountain, then climb Huangling mountain, and go along the ridge of Pingfeng mountain to Heshu pond, where the lake is like a mirror. This section is 12 kilometers long and takes five and a half hours to complete.

If you only want to have a light-weight affinity with nature, you can also choose the Heshu trail and the liushuixiang trail. The former can easily roam the beautiful rural scenery of Heshu, while the latter can walk along the mountain depression. It is suitable for those who have hiking experience to enjoy the lake and mountain scenery of liushuixiang pond along the way.

Spring breeze Pavilion

Chunfeng Pavilion is located at the foot of Xiangu peak in baxianling, Tai Po, Hong Kong. It is located at the second stop of baxianling nature education path in baxianling country park. It is accessible from the stone steps of the entrance channel. Chunfengting is backed by baxianling Lianfeng and faces chuanwan freshwater lake. Chunfeng pavilion was built to commemorate two teachers (Zhou Zhiqi and Wang Xiumei) who sacrificed themselves to save others in the baxianling mountain fire on February 10, 1996. The name "spring breeze Pavilion" means to educate all things.

On the afternoon of March 12, 1996, governor patten officiated at the opening ceremony of Chunfeng Pavilion. The three characters "chunfengting" on the horizontal plaque of chunfengting are the calligraphy works of Fang Zhaolin (mother of Chen fangansheng). There are three inscriptions in chunfengting, one of which is the unveiling monument of the governor of Hong Kong, and the other two sides are the Chinese and English contrast inscriptions written by Yu Li Qingping, then director of education of Hong Kong. They describe the whole story of the incident. Two luohansong trees are planted in front of the pavilion to commemorate the two teachers.

Hesu reservoir

Also known as Hesu reservoir, located in the west of baxianling country park, it is one of the small reservoirs in Hong Kong.

Built in 1968, Hesu reservoir is part of the chuanwan fresh water lake project. It is responsible for collecting water from the northwest of baxianling and supplying it to chuanwan fresh water lake through underground water pipes. At the same time, Hesu reservoir is also an irrigation reservoir for irrigation of nearby farmland.

The total capacity of the reservoir is only about 180000 cubic meters. The main concrete dam is 18 meters high and 102.1 meters long. The reservoir is small in scale, but the environment is beautiful and quiet. It is a popular place for outings and camping.

The best of Parks

The most challenging peaks in Hong Kong are well deserved by baxianling in terms of the intensity of continuous ascent and descent. The eight peaks here are majestic and named after the eight immortals. From the East, we can see why Xiangu (Xiangu peak), Han Xiangzi (Xiangzi peak), LAN Caihe (Caihe peak), Cao Guojiu (caojiefeng), tie Guai Li (guailifeng), Zhang Guolao (Guolao peak), Han Zhongli (Zhongli peak) and LV Dongbin (Chunyang peak). The main peak of baxianling is Chunyang peak, 591 meters high. It is the first of the peaks, overlooking the landscape of northeast New Territories.

Although the height of Xiangu peak is only 511 meters, it is also impressive because of its good landscape angle and the 1996 baxianling mountain fire tragedy. The location of the teachers and students' death was located at Maliu cliff on the south slope of Xiangu peak. The spring breeze Pavilion, which commemorates the tragedy, is located near the entrance of baxianling nature education path at the south foot of Xiangu peak. Visitors come in an endless stream every holiday.

Liushuixiang country Trail - take the 52b minibus at Fanling railway station, get off at heshuwei, and walk along liushuixiang road to liushuixiang reservoir to the entrance of the nurse station of liushuixiang reservoir country park.
