Kunming Theater was founded in 1957

Located on youth road. All year round, the theater introduces and promotes performances of various art forms at home and abroad. The two theaters are used together, presenting concerts, dance dramas, drama, recitations and other performances for Kunming and even Yunnan audiences every year.

Development history

Kunming Theater started construction in 1957 and was officially completed and put into use in 1958. The architectural style is "Soviet style architecture". In the 1950s, as the first standardized theater in Kunming, Kunming Theater mainly served for meetings and people's cultural and entertainment life, such as film screening and performances of provincial troupes.

In order to support the third China Art Festival, Kunming Theater was redesigned and built on the original site in 1991, which has been in use all the time. With the continuous increase of the number of performances every year, the performance team is increasingly internationalized, and the requirements for theater stage hardware facilities are higher and higher. In order to provide the audience with safe, high-quality and high-level performances, with the joint efforts and support of all parties, Kunming Theater completed the major upgrade of stage hardware facilities from 2016 to March 2018; in June 2018, Kunming Theater started to promote the design and construction of "Kunming Theater · small theater" project, which officially opened in August 2019; in February 2019, the theater peripheral renovation was carried out Building and lighting project.

Since 2004, Kunming Theater has been committed to the operation of commercial performances, and has maintained a long-term good and win-win partnership with major theaters, theater performance alliances, excellent performing groups and artists at home and abroad. It provides a broader platform for exchange of performance projects and mutual sharing of advanced experience. For many years, Kunming theatre has undertaken the cultural exchange activities of "Sino French cultural spring" in Kunming, covering performances, exhibitions and other art fields.

In 2018, Kunming Theater launched two programs to benefit the people, namely "Yuexiang card" for concert performances and "Xijing stored value card" for all kinds of plays. It will lower the ticket price threshold that has been bothering the audience for a long time, so that the audience who love theater performances can have the opportunity to watch all kinds of plays with affordable ticket prices.

The Grand Theater holds concerts, dance dramas, drama and recitations all year round. Each year, more than 100 performances contribute to the improvement of Kunming citizens' artistic aesthetics and the enrichment of cultural life.

In addition to 158 fixed seats, there are also 150 free moving seats in the small theater, which can be adjusted into different display modes according to the needs of performance or meeting to create different atmosphere. In addition, the lighting system and holographic sound immersion sound reinforcement array can create a small, refined and beautiful viewing experience. A variety of stage modes broaden the possibility of using small theater.

The small theater, which will be put into use at the end of June 2019, is the resident venue of Yunnan Provincial dialect theater and drama gathering drama; it is the forefront of the spread and promotion of independent minority and cutting-edge art in Kunming; it can be used together with the Grand Theater to introduce and hold more domestic and foreign dramas in various forms.

Acting agent

Since 2013, Kunming theatre has cooperated with various high-quality performing groups and artists at home and abroad to represent its Chinese tour. Every year, Kunming Theater acts as an agent for 3-5 tours at home and abroad. In line with the idea of letting the local culture go out, Yunnan opera lantern drama "walking marriage", dance drama "Carnival wa tribe", drama "moving" and "Kunming Theater red leaf Youth Chorus Concert" have all come to the audience all over the country through their agents; they come from Finland, Italy, the United States, New Zealand and France Artists and groups from China and other countries are also well known by domestic audiences through the platform built by Kunming Theater, opening up a new situation for its domestic and even Asian market. For example, the key ensemble, which has just finished its tour in 12 cities in China, has received numerous praise everywhere and is expected to hold another tour in China in 2020. In addition, in 2020, Kunming Theater will act as an agent for the original musical "fragrant city" of Kunming National Song and dance theater to tour the country.

Series of recitation activities of "the sound of Dianchi Lake"

Kunming Theater will launch a new series of activities in the name of "the sound of Dianchi Lake" in 2019, making it normal. The series of activities of "the sound of Dianchi Lake" not only make sound for the protection of Mother Lake, but also convey people's awe and love for nature, as well as their yearning for a better life.

On May 9, 2019, the "voice of Dianchi Lake · the first session of famous writers and articles recitation meeting" has the honor to invite eight powerful artists, namely Da Shichang, Li Lihong, Pu Cunxin, song Chunli, sun Qiang, Yan Xiaopin, Yao Xijuan and Zhao Xiaolu, to start the series of recitation activities in Kunming. The theme of the 2019 recitation is the power of the voice.
