Introduction to former residence
Zhang Wentian's former residence was approved by Shanghai Municipal People's government as a municipal cultural relics protection unit on September 19, 1985. At the beginning of 1989, the Municipal Council of Cultural Affairs allocated funds for the comprehensive renovation of Zhang Wentian's former residence. During the renovation, the original appearance of Zhang Wentian's former residence was completely maintained, fences and walls were added, and necessary passages were built. Now it has become a rare cultural landscape in Pudong and a youth education base in Shanghai.
Zhang Wentian's former residence is an ordinary house with brick and wood structure of one main room and two hatchback rooms with the characteristics of Jiangnan countryside. Sitting in the north and south, there are 5 main rooms, 2 wing rooms on both sides, and 4 useful rooms on the outside of the West Wing room, a total of 13 rooms. There is a brick patio in the middle and a wooden gate Pavilion in front. The total construction area is 488 square meters, covering an area of 686 square meters. There are vegetable gardens and green trees in the front, green bamboos and river ditches in the back, and bamboo fences around them. It's an idyllic scene.
Zhang Wentian's former residence is located in Zhang's house, Dengsan village, Zhuqiao Town, Pudong New Area, Shanghai, China. On August 30, 1900, proletarian revolutionist and theorist Zhang Wentian was born here. The former residence is a tile roofed house with one front and two sides and a wooden pavilion in front, commonly known as "Xiucai Pavilion", which has been demolished. Zhang Wentian lived with his parents in the Baimian bedroom of the guest hall when he was young. There was a study on the west side of the bedroom. When he was 17 years old, he went to Nanjing to study, and then he left his hometown. Later, he went home to live many times. Zhang Wentian was one of the early leaders of the Communist Party of China. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1925 and successively served as Minister of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and first vice minister of the foreign ministry. In 1959, he was wrongly criticized at the Lushan conference and persecuted during the "Cultural Revolution", but he was still tirelessly engaged in the study of Marxist economic theory. He died in Wuxi on July 1, 1976. In 1990, to commemorate his 90th birthday, he renovated his former residence, restored his bedroom, study, living room and kitchen to their original state. Many of the furniture was still old, and opened a "exhibition room of Zhang Wentian's revolutionary history". The 253 pictures and 266 objects on display are reminiscent of Comrade Zhang Wentian's magnificent life and patriotic education.
The former residence is in disrepair for a long time. The terrain is low and the damage is serious. In September 1986, Chen Yunwei wrote "the former residence of Comrade Zhang Wentian". In February 1989, the Shanghai Municipal Administration of cultural relics allocated funds for comprehensive maintenance. The foundation was filled 50 cm high and the roof truss was lifted as a whole to restore the original appearance.
