Shanghai International Dance Center is the only cultural venue exclusively belonging to dance in Shanghai. It is located in Hongqiao Road, Changning District, central city of Shanghai. Shanghai International Dance Center has a 1080 seat Grand Theater and a 300 seat synthetic rehearsal hall (small theater). Shanghai Ballet, Shanghai Song and dance troupe, Shanghai Academy of drama and Shanghai dance school are gathered here. It will be officially opened to the public in October 2016.

Among them, building 1 is the rehearsal and creation group of the dance troupe, adjacent to the dense green space in the East; building 2 is the main theater of the dance center, with 1080 seats; building 3 and 4 are the dance school group, with an internal courtyard with overlapping trees. Shanghai International Dance Center has the functions of teaching office, artistic creation, dance research and professional rehearsal of dance school affiliated to Shanghai Theatre Academy (formerly Shanghai Dance School), dance academy, Shanghai Ballet and Shanghai Song and dance company. It also has a professional dance theater and a synthetic rehearsal hall with 1:1 live configuration. "The original intention of building an international dance center is to have a wider space, a common theater, a large-scale system of teaching, learning and art, and a big platform standing proudly in the international market."

Main Theatre

The theater of Shanghai International Dance Center is specially designed for all kinds of dance performances. The 1080 seat theater is the visual focus of the four architectural groups. For example, the leading dancer in ballet dances on the stretching art buildings with her toes.

Historical Retrospection

Today's Shanghai International Dance Center stands in the dahongqiao area of West Shanghai with a modern and international posture. But before, it was just six old garden houses. In the 1930s, six garden houses were built at No. 1674 (now No. 1650) of Hongqiao Road. In 1960, Shanghai dance school was founded. In November 1961, the dance school moved to the area. In 1979, Shanghai Ballet and Shanghai Song and dance troupe were established here. As a result, these six garden buildings have become the "cradle of dancers" of Shanghai people

T.p.o., founded in 1981, is an innovative children's interactive experience troupe, which is composed of artists and engineers. The troupe continues to combine new multimedia interactive technology with dance, music, poetry and other art forms to highlight the interest and participation of its works. Break the boundary between art and game, and guide the audience and performers to have an artistic dialogue with space, form and sound by mobilizing children's sensory initiative.
