The Museum of history of Shanghai is a museum that fully reflects the historical development of Shanghai. Development history
Shanghai Museum of history is a comprehensive reflection of the local history of Shanghai. The preparatory work for the construction of Shanghai geographic museum began in the 1950s with the Shanghai Museum of history and construction.
In 1953, the social and cultural administration office of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of culture began to prepare the Shanghai history and construction Museum. The Department of Literature Museum compiled the outline of local chronicles, and conducted the collection of cultural relics. In November 1954, Shanghai officially established the Preparatory Office of Shanghai Museum of history and construction. In 1956, the preparatory office borrowed part of the former Asian Cultural Association on Huqiu road to prepare for the construction of the museum. According to the overall design, the museum was divided into the historical period before the Opium War, the old democratic revolution period, the new democratic revolution period, and the socialist construction period. It compiled the collection outline and display plan, and carried out the interview and collection activities. In 1957, it was rebuilt into a 3700 square meter exhibition room by borrowing the base site under the terrace of the cultural square. In May 1959, the preparatory work was suspended for some reason, and the cultural relics and documents collected were transferred to the Shanghai Municipal Commission for the preservation of cultural relics and Shanghai Museum.
In 1961, the Shanghai Municipal Committee for the preservation of cultural relics set up a Shanghai History Research Department, which consists of a research group and a cleaning and excavation group. It continued to plan the basic exhibition plan for the local chronicle Museum, preparing or exhibiting in Shanghai Museum and Shanghai Library in the form of special exhibitions. In September 1983, preparations for the exhibition of Shanghai's historical relics were resumed. The fifth Hall of Shanghai Agricultural Exhibition Hall was taken as the temporary building and officially opened to the public on May 27, 1984. It was named "Shanghai historical relics exhibition hall". Covering an area of about 900 square meters, the exhibition is divided into five parts: "preface hall", "Shanghai's primitive culture", "ancient Shanghai", "modern Shanghai" and "the founding of the Communist Party of China and modern Shanghai". In 1983, Shanghai historical relics exhibition hall temporarily borrowed the fifth Hall of Shanghai Agricultural Exhibition Hall in the western suburbs as the temporary site, and officially opened to the public on May 27, 1984. In October 1991, Shanghai History Museum opened a new museum at 1286 Hongqiao Road. The basic exhibition is "exhibition of the history of modern Shanghai urban development". More than 1500 cultural relics are displayed in six parts. It comprehensively shows the century old Shanghai style from 1843 to 1949. The total collection of Shanghai History Museum is about 110000 pieces, which are divided into 15 categories: calligraphy and painting, metals, ceramics, crafts, badges, documents, printing, textiles, stone carvings, coins, photos, paper cutting, stamps, records and other miscellaneous items. Shanghai History Museum has long been carrying out academic investigation and Research on the history of Shanghai local cultural relics, customs, human environment, urban change, Museology and so on, and has published a large number of works. Since 2002, the Journal of Shanghai History Museum has been published. In 2007, Shanghai History Museum became the director of the city museum committee of the Chinese Museum Society. As a major cultural project in the 12th Five Year Plan period, the new project of Shanghai History Museum has been included in the 12th Five Year Plan of Shanghai. Collection
Shanghai History Museum is a museum of Chinese geography.
