Nanjing bell was born in Nanjing in the middle of the 19th century, hence its name. It is also called insert screen clock, Su clock and Ben clock. During the next seven or eighty years, it was popular in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
After the outbreak of the war of resistance against Japan, it was stopped, and few survived. The shape of Nanjing Bell's ancient screen model has distinctive Oriental cultural characteristics. Its shell is divided into three parts, commonly known as three supports. Five bats holding longevity are carved on the screen frame, gourd climbing, two dragons playing with pearls, Eight Immortals crossing the sea, fishing, firewood farming and reading are carved on the gold plating plate, which are lifelike. The base is made of bent legs and waist, which is smooth and ancient. The whole machine is simple and elegant. In September 1915, Nanjing bell won the gold medal at the Pacific Panama Expo held in San Francisco, USA. Since then, China's Nanjing bell has gained a great reputation at home and abroad. Mr. Liu Guoding, born in Haian County, Jiangsu Province in 1927, is a teacher. He began to collect Nanjing clocks in the mid-1960s and formed a series. Since the end of 1980s, he has participated in dozens of exhibitions in Shanghai and Nanjing and won high praise. In March 1991, China's first "Nanjing bell collection room" was established and opened to the public.
