In 1965, the first professional creation and research institution of oil painting and sculpture in New China, Shanghai oil painting and Sculpture Academy, was born. At that time, it was called Shanghai oil painting and sculpture studio. This is the continuation of the unique system of the Academy with a long history and tradition in New China. After several times of ups and downs and institutional changes, artists from the oil painting department, sculpture department, oil painting and sculpture training class and Sculpture Research Institute of Shanghai Academy of fine arts began to gather under the same banner and express their passion and heart for the common ideal of art.

After several times of ups and downs and institutional changes, artists from the oil painting department, sculpture department, oil painting and sculpture training class and Sculpture Research Institute of Shanghai Academy of fine arts began to gather under the same banner and express their passion and heart for the common ideal of art.

From being a toddler to persisting in going forward, they have devoted the efforts, sweat, wisdom and creativity of three generations of artists. With their works and achievements, they have won wide popularity and reputation. Among them, Wu Dayu, Zhang Chongren, Zhou Bichu, Yu Yunjie and so on, who enjoy a good reputation at home and abroad and occupy a certain position in the history of modern Chinese fine arts. A group of young and middle-aged oil painters and sculptors who are diligent in creation, good at exploration, outstanding achievements and influential have become the backbone of the Academy. In recent years, a group of innovative and practical artists have emerged in the Academy The young artistic talents who are increasingly emerging in the art world have diversified styles and are good at their own advantages. The hard work and dedication of the three generations of artists have achieved this goal.

Over the past 40 years, Shanghai Academy of oil painting and sculpture has successively created many well-known excellent works, and has made a series of research achievements, some of which have won awards nationwide and in Shanghai; some have been selected to go abroad for exhibition and won awards internationally; some have been collected by the National Art Museum and Museum, some have been collected by overseas people and museums; such as the fall of the Jiangjia Dynasty and discussing major events together 》"Yuhuatai group sculpture", "May 30th monument" and other works have long been familiar to people, and have become handed down works in the history of Chinese art development.

In recent years, adhering to the spirit of hard development and constant progress of the previous artists, the artists of the Institute seize the opportunity to keep pace with the times, and strive to explore and find their own art forms and language in the fierce competitive social environment. They have created many masterpieces that extol the theme and eulogize the new era.
