Ruan Lingyu's former residence
(1910-1935), an early Chinese movie star, was originally named Ruan Fenggen, whose scientific name was Ruan Yuying. A native of zuobuguan village, Nanlang, Xiangshan (now Zhongshan), Guangdong Province, was born in Shanghai on April 26, 1910. Because when the father of a worker died early, he was a servant with his mother when he was a child. Her mother cut down on food and clothing and let her go to school. She studied in Shanghai Chongde women's middle school. In 1926, in order to make a living on one's own and support his mother, he was admitted to Shanghai Star Film Company and starred in his maiden work named husband and wife.
The site of Ruan Lingyu's former residence is located at the side of Ruan's ancestral hall in Zuobu village. It was built in the Qing Dynasty. The former residence was a 13 pit brick and wood structure bungalow. Ruan's father sold it to others when he went to Shanghai to do business. The house was demolished during the Japanese invasion of Zhongshan,
Later, uncle Ruan Lingyu bought back the foundation of the house. Now, Ruan's house, Ruan Bingquan, bought it back and turned it into a garden with an area of about 60 square meters. There is still an ancient well. It belongs to the former residence site of celebrities. In November 2004, it was determined as an immovable cultural relic by the Municipal People's government.
