The whole land was formed in the early 20th century. After penggongtang was built in Nanhui County in 1884, the tidal flat expanded to the East and moved to the south, and ligongtang was built in 1906. Between the two ponds, villages were gradually formed through reclamation. In 1911, when the provisional government of the Republic of China was established, there was a village political power "Lu" in waizhong village. Due to the confluence of the Yangtze River and Qiantang River, the area of Luchaogang was named Huijiao because of the accumulation of sand and sand into the sea. After liberation, it was named huimao Township when it was built to commemorate the martyr Huang Maochun. In the winter of 1958, ten thousand mu orchards were built in Luchaogang area, which was named as orchard people's commune since September 1966. In March 1993, Guoyuan Township and the original Luchaogang town were merged to build the town. Because of the port of Luchaogang in Tonghai, it was named Luchaogang.
The land in the territory is flat and slightly higher in the south. The soil is typical saline alkali sandy soil. The climate has four distinct seasons. Affected by the Ocean monsoon, it has southeast wind in spring and lower temperature in summer than the western part of Nanhui County. The annual average temperature is 15.6 ℃ and the rainfall is 1085mm. It is a subtropical marine climate.
In 2012, the former Luchaogang town and the former Shengang Street merged to form Nanhui new town.
The origin of the name
Before liberation, fishermen went to sea for fishing mainly from the port of putting their heads in and out. Because of the long distance from the beach, the mud is too much, and the road is too muddy to walk, some fishermen sail southeast from the dense reeds on the east side of the port, and gradually step out a path from the reeds. After that, more and more people took this road. Over time, the road became wider and wider, and also lower and lower. After several tides, a 5-meter-wide deep water channel burst out of the depressed road.
About 24-27 years (1935-1938) in the Republic of China, fishermen randomly named this deep channel "Luchaogang". Later, the local government and local people also used this place name. In 1960, the people's Government of Nanhui County built Sanmen Sluice at the entrance of "Luchaogang". Song Richang, then vice mayor of Shanghai, changed the homonym of the sluice to Luchaogang, which has been in use since then.
Natural ecology
Luchaogang is located in the Yangtze River Delta, which belongs to subtropical marine climate. With beautiful environment and pleasant scenery, it is the birthplace of Shanghai Peach Blossom Festival. The 200m wide green belt on the west side separates Luchao port from the heavy equipment industrial zone, forming a natural green barrier and standing on the Bank of Luchao port. In the southeast, there is a large area of peach garden and fir forest. In March and April every year, peach blossom blooms; in autumn and winter, fir leaves fall, which has a unique flavor. The main river, Luchaogang River, is 60 meters wide, connecting Pujiang River in the north and Donghai River in the south, forming a natural fisherman's Wharf at the estuary.
Humanistic economy
The traditional fishery, planting, tourism and other characteristic industries of Luchao port have made it unique in Lingang New City. The planned "marine ecological cultural port" is the only compound leisure and sightseeing fishing port in Shanghai, which integrates seafood trading, catering, sightseeing and entertainment, and leisure experience.
After the reconstruction, the annual passenger flow will increase from 1.5 million to 3 million
