Xiling Bridge
Xiling Yangtse River Bridge, located on the Yangtze River waterway, is a river crossing channel connecting the north and south banks in Yichang City, Hubei Province, China. It is one of the key traffic projects of the Three Gorges Project.
The construction of Xiling Yangtze River Bridge was started on December 23, 1993 and opened to traffic on August 10, 1996.
Xiling Yangtze River Bridge starts from Xiling Avenue in the south, crosses the Yangtze River Waterway in the upper and reaches Jiangxia Avenue in the north. The total length of the line is 1118.66 meters, and the main span is 900 meters. The bridge deck is a two-way four lane first-class highway with a design speed of 80 km / H.
Construction process
On March 11, 1993, the Three Gorges Project Construction Committee of the State Council of the people's Republic of China confirmed that Xiling Yangtze River Bridge was one of the components of the Three Gorges external transportation system; on September 11 and November 17, the bidding activities for the project were completed; the preparatory work for the construction of Xiling Yangtze River Bridge was carried out; on December 23, the construction of Xiling Yangtze River Bridge was started.
On April 18, 1995, the North Main Tower of Xiling Yangtze River Bridge was capped;
On August 10, 1996, Xiling Yangtze River Bridge was opened to traffic.
On May 16, 2012, the bridge deck of Xiling Yangtze River Bridge was repaired.
Bridge location
Xiling Yangtze River Bridge is located in Yichang City, Hubei Province, China, connecting the north and south sides of Yiling District, 4.5km away from the upstream Three Gorges Dam pivot New York, and 35km away from the downstream Gezhouba pivot New York. The bridge starts from Xiling Avenue in the south, crosses the Yangtze River Waterway in the upper, and ends at Jiangxia Avenue in the north.

Xiling Yangtze River Bridge is composed of main bridge, two pylons, cables, anchorages, approach bridges and Interchange Ramps; the main bridge section is arranged from southeast to northwest.

Xiling Yangtze River Bridge has a total length of 1118.66 meters, a main span of 900 meters, a cross span of 30 meters, a clear deck width of 18 meters, a sidewalk width of 1.5 meters, a rise span ratio of 1 / 10.465, a horizontal span of 255 meters in the north and 225 meters in the South. There are 70 standard sections of steel box girder of the whole bridge, with the specification of (20.6x3x12.7) cubic meters, two end sections with the specification of (20.6x3x5,48) cubic meters, and the deck concrete is 6cm thick. The height of the main tower is 120 meters, the top elevation is 187.5 meters, the longitudinal length of the column section is 6 meters, the transverse length is 4 meters, the solid section at the root is 2 meters, the diameter of the main tower foundation is 2.2 meters, and the diameter of the approach bridge foundation is 1.5 meters. Each main cable is 1478m in length and 2300t in weight. It is composed of 110 strands and 91 5mm steel wires each. After being extruded into a circle, the diameter is 560mm. The ratio of vertical span of main cable is 1:10.465, the center distance between two main cables is 20m, and the center distance of sling is 12.7m.

The difficulties encountered in the construction of Xiling Yangtze River Bridge are as follows:
According to the geological survey data of Xiling Yangtze River Bridge at that time, the overburden contains boulder and block stone, and the residual fast sphere is distributed in the completely weathered and strongly weathered layer under it. Its hardness is as high as 100 MPa. The geological heterogeneity brings great difficulties to the drilling. In order to ensure the smooth construction of pile foundation, reliable construction technology must be adopted.
