Tiesha River
Tiesha River, as a thousand year old river and moat in Hangzhou City, was excavated in 861 ad to release the tide of Qiantang River and protect Hangzhou city.
In ancient times, due to the accumulation of sediment on the beach, it was called Shahe together with several adjacent rivers, commonly known as "tieshahe". In 1907, the Shanghai Hangzhou Railway passed through the city to the east of tiesha river. People set up a railway station in the gate of the Qing Dynasty. At the same time, the gate and a section of the city wall were demolished. Therefore, the river course of tiesha river is located in the urban area. After more than a thousand years of changes, today its channel starts from houchaomenbanqiao in the South and ends at Genshan sluice in the north, with a total length of 6257 meters. Since the completion of qingtaimen Waterworks in 1931, tiesha river has become a water source protection area, but it can only supply one day. In recent years, the people's government has carried out a comprehensive renovation of the tiesha River, with an investment of several hundred million yuan. It has taken measures such as intercepting sewage and diverting water, rippling banks, dredging silt, diverting water and decaying, greening both banks, and strengthening management. Tiesha river has clear water, neat barge ridge, willow rows on the dike and tree shadows. At the same time, due to the completion of the Chengdong park on the East Bank of the tiesha River, the two banks present a beautiful landscape of green space, self-supporting red fruits, flower beds, pergolas and stone sculptures. It is another good place for Hangzhou citizens to play and relax.
