Longqing Temple
Longqing temple, located in Jiashan scenic spot, HouXiang Town, Danyang City, Jiangsu Province, is close to the ancestral hall of Xiao, the descendant of Qi and Liang emperors in the Southern Dynasties. Longqing temple, formerly known as "Jiashan Temple", is commonly known as Longqing temple. HouXiang Town, located in the northeast of Danyang City, lies on Jiashan mountain in the north and Jiuqu River in the south. It was first built in the Shaosheng period of the Northern Song Dynasty. It has a long history of 915 years. It has a profound influence on the people of Danyang, especially the Buddhists. It was once as famous as jinshanjiang Tianchan temple in Zhenjiang and is an important Buddhist temple in the south of the Yangtze River.
In 1991, the people's Government of Danyang City listed Longqing temple as "the key cultural relics protection unit of Danyang City"
In 1996, it officially approved the resumption of the reconstruction and opening to the outside world. Over the years, with the concern of the Danyang municipal Party committee, the municipal government and the town Party committee and government, and through various efforts, the "Daxiong hall" and the "Tianwang hall" under the state cultural relics protection have been renovated, and the FA hall, zushi hall, Jialan hall, Zhaitang, Beiting, Shangke hall, guest rooms, etc. have been restored and rebuilt. In 2005, Guanyin hall, dizang hall, Wanfo hall, Wofo hall, Luohan hall, Sansheng hall and Sutra collection building were rebuilt, which is now quite large. Pilgrims and tourists from Shanghai, Zhejiang, Shandong, Beijing, Hebei, Tianjin, Suzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing and other places in our province have often come here to burn incense, worship Buddha and travel.
Longqing temple is a large-scale temple. There were 94 Temple houses at one time. The original four Buddhist temples were Fuli, Xianqing, Jingxiao and Zhenzhu. There was a dragon pool in front of the temple and a pavilion built on the pool. Now it has been abandoned. There is an ancient well in the temple, which is narrow in the upper part and broad in the lower part. It is several feet deep. The deepest part of the bottom is about half an acre. It is not dry all the year round, and the water is clean. During the Anti Japanese War, Longqing temple was destroyed by the war. Only two sides of the temple stele "rebuilt Jiashan temple and Longwang Temple" and "rebuilt Jiashan Temple stele" were left. Monk Jueshan raised money for reconstruction. He has repaired two main halls, built east and West Wing rooms, customized 4.5 tons of big clocks, and carved 37 Bodhisattvas. Shanmen hall, Tianwang hall, Daxiong hall, sutra library, Zhaitang, dizang hall, Sansheng hall, Guanyin hall, Hakka hall, Zutang, Fatang and other buildings have been built, covering an area of more than 40 mu. The opening ceremony was held on October 16, 1997.
According to the records of Danyang county annals, the scale of Longqing temple is very large. There are more than 300 mu of mountains and 200 mu of farmland. There are temples on the mountains. In addition to the traditional temples at the foot of the mountains, there are more than 900 houses, such as "Fuli", "Xianqing", "Jingxiao" and "Zhenzhu". Tang Bohu, Wen Zhengming, the four great talents of the Ming Dynasty, and other literati of all ages often came to visit the mountain, enjoy the scenery, live in the temple for tea, recite poems and write Fu, which left a valuable page in the history of Longqing temple. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty came to the temple many times to worship incense and Buddha. The dragon heart was very happy, and the temple was named "Longqing Temple".
