Historical evolution
Built in the Ming Dynasty, the temple was originally named Nan'an. Wang Yangming, a famous philosopher and educator in the middle of Ming Dynasty, visited Nan'an several times in 1509 when he was lecturing in Guiyang Wenming Academy. There are two rhymes of Nan'an, which records the beautiful scenery of Nan'an: "the spring in Yan temple is not summer, and the flowers on the river are more beautiful than peach.". The mountain shade enters the house, the river light is dusk, the forest shadow floats in the sky, the summer air is high. How can the old tree know the time, and the stream's Halal can learn from qiuhao. But when you are in a good place, you have to have fun. The ink leaves the wind and frost on your temples. " Later, it was renamed Shengshou temple. According to Hongzhi's Guizhou tujing Xinzhi, "Shengshou temple is outside the South Gate of Zhicheng, east of Jihong bridge, old Nanan. Before the Qingtan, after the Chonggang negative, the peak line Chen, around the left and right, vegetation, bamboo and stone, misplaced miscellaneous Chen In the middle and late Ming Dynasty (1506-1521), Hu Qiong, the censor of Guizhou Province, changed Shengshou temple into Wuhou Temple to offer sacrifices to Zhuge Liang until the end of Ming Dynasty.
In 1655, the 12th year of Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty and the 9th year of Yongli reign of the Southern Ming Dynasty, Zhang Xianzhong stationed sun Wangwang in Guiyang, relocated Wuhou Temple to another place, rebuilt Guanyin temple and worshipped Guanyin Bodhisattva. According to Guizhou Tongzhi written by Kangxi of Qing Dynasty, "Guanyin temple is on the South Bank of Fucheng, and the former site of Wuhou Temple is rebuilt.".
During the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1821-1850), Guanyin temple was renamed Shuiyue temple and still offered sacrifices to Guanyin. "Guizhou Fu Zhi" records: "Shuiyue temple is Guanyin temple. It is on the Nanming River outside the South Gate of Fucheng city. A few steps to Jiaxiu tower, it is next to Fuyu bridge. On the bridge, there used to be Hanbi Pavilion, but now it is di. There is a pavilion at the gate of the temple, which is called "gongnan". There are three pillars in the main hall. There is a square in the hall. There is a thousand Buddha copper tower, which can be nine feet high. After the hall of the grand master, next to the Danhua garden, there are several Ying in the living room. There are also three Cuiwei pavilions, which are composed by poets and poets In the early years of Daoguang, a small building with three couplets was built on the right side of the temple to view the water. In 1828, Ruan Yuan, the governor of Yunnan and Guizhou, wrote the title of "Cuiwei". Cuiwei Pavilion is a famous building in the temple. It faces Nanming River in front, sleeps hills in the back, and is a scenic spot in Guiyang. Wang bingao wrote a couplet of Cuiwei Pavilion: "half mountain building, half river building, calligraphy and painting boat, let me raise my beard and laugh, invite a few red pines, Yellowstone and white apes to comment on the present and ancient times; a few woodcutters and fishing flutes, Cuiwei heaven does its best to clap and sing, listen to the unreal Lushui, the bright moon, the breeze, everything is empty."
In 1940, Jiaxiu primary school was set up in the temple. The gate, main hall and Cuiwei Pavilion were demolished or used for other purposes. The bronze pagoda of Thousand Buddhas, which was cast in the Ming Dynasty, still existed in the early days of the Anti Japanese War, but its whereabouts are unknown. Since 1990, the Municipal People's government has restored gongnan Pavilion, "Danhua kongcui" garden, Cuiwei Pavilion, Longmen academy, and widely planted flowers and trees, and later named it Cuiwei garden.
