Yinchuan Han Meilin Art Museum
Han Meilin Art Museum in Yinchuan officially opened on December 21, 2015 at the foot of Helan Mountain in Yinchuan, Ningxia. It is the third Han Meilin Art Museum in China outside Hangzhou and Beijing.
The origin of Helan
Thirty kilometers west of Yinchuan is the Helan mountain range, which has many peaks. Dating back to the stone age, the ancients left images of people, animals, hunting, sacrifice and gods between the rocks on both sides of the valley at the east foot of the pass. Through 5000 years, it has a wonderful connection with the contemporary artist Han Meilin.
As he said: "21 years ago, I first came to Helan Mountain. Facing so many ancient rock paintings, I suddenly felt that I had been away for half my life. I didn't find a home for art until I was in my 50s."
In 2010, with deep friendship for Helan Mountain, Mr. Han Meilin donated more than 1000 pieces of artistic works to Yinchuan Municipal People's government. In order to collect and display these precious works of art, Yinchuan municipal government decided to build an art museum in Helan Mountain rock painting site. As a result, the Han Meilin Art Museum in Yinchuan came into being.
Original inspiration
Facing the towering Helan Mountain, what kind of attitude architecture should take to intervene in this majestic and primitive natural environment, and finally create a special space belonging to this land, is an important issue faced by Sanlei design.
The ancient rock paintings inspire Mr. Han Meilin's artistic inspiration and give the design team the greatest inspiration. We hope that this art museum, like the remains of rock paintings, not only expresses human wisdom, but also integrates with nature. Compared with the majestic mountain, it expresses the sense of human existence with appropriate scale, volume and lines.
In this way, the resonance between man and art and the symbiosis between architecture and nature can be formed.
Contemporary Interpretation
Helan Mountain is a rocky mountain with barren land and bare rocks. The construction of local stone wall is the wisdom crystallization of "local materials" in the housing construction of the indigenous people at the foot of Helan Mountain.
In order to ensure the vast and powerful site characteristics, the whole building is embedded into the mountain by using the mountain height difference. The stone masonry wall with local original texture is like natural, and the "gap" between the walls bears the main function of the building. The three platforms constructed with fair faced concrete seem to be shelved on the original landform, creating a sense of security in the wild.
The original texture of the wall and the pure exhibition hall constitute the rudiment of the building. After repeated coordination and consideration of many factors such as function, moving line and aesthetic feeling, the shape of the building is finally determined. The auxiliary functions of the building, such as stairs and toilet, are all hidden in the thick "wall", which ensures the high purity of all exhibition space and makes the architectural modeling level plump at the same time.
Space interaction
Based on the height difference of 9.5 meters, we use the top-down visiting streamline to lead the flow of people to the entrance of the building by natural stone path. The museum is divided into three levels, including exhibition hall, interactive area, creative area and tourist service area. It integrates the functions of visiting, teaching, exhibition and leisure. It displays Mr. Han Meilin's paintings, calligraphy, sculpture, ceramics and other fine arts with rock paintings as the theme.
According to the characteristics of the exhibits, we adopt the layout of multiple exhibition halls to facilitate the layout of different types of art works in different exhibition spaces. The plane pattern is dominated by the core exhibition hall on the two floors of the center, and the interactive space with varied shapes is set between the exhibition halls with regular shapes. The staggered layout of the exhibition hall and the interactive hall makes the visit more interesting, just like the different chapters of a great work, which makes the visitors savor carefully.
starting point end point
The Museum of art is located at the exit of the rock art site scenic spot. Its appearance not only enriches the experience rhythm of the whole scenic spot, but also is like a stop for the slightly tired visitors. This is not only the end of the flow line of the scenic spot, but also the starting point of the interaction between the aftertaste of tradition and contemporary art. Tourists can enjoy the blend and dialogue of history, art, nature and modern spirit 5000 years ago.
In the sky, the Han Meilin Art Museum in Yinchuan is like a ring of beautiful Yingluo, hidden under the towering Helan Mountain with ancient rock paintings.
