The forest park is located in the subtropical monsoon humid climate zone, with abundant rainfall and long frost free period. The annual average temperature is 17.9 ℃, which is 6 ℃ ~ 8 ℃ lower than the surrounding towns. It has the characteristics of no hot summer, less cold winter and four distinct seasons. The vegetation type is subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest, and the forest coverage rate is 95%.
On November 1, 1995, it was established as a national forest park with the approval of the former Ministry of forestry.

Location context
Located in the northeast of Hengyang County, Hunan yiloufeng National Forest Park is adjacent to Xiangjiang River in the East, Yancheng in the South (25km away from Hengyang City), Chuanshan in the West and zhurong in the north. The location coordinates are between 112 ° 30 ′ - 112 ° 38 ′ E and 27 ° 5 ′ - 27 ° 15 ′ n, covering a total area of 2067 hectares.

Yuwang Hall
Yuwang hall, built on the main peak of yilou, was built to commemorate Dayu's flood control. According to legend, Dayu pursued the strategy of water control to yilou peak, and under the guidance of the immortal, he got the gold slips and jade letters from heaven, which made the water control a success. It was first built in the second year of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty (127 A.D.). In successive dynasties, it was transformed into ancestral temple, altar, temple, palace or temple. Later, it was transformed into ancestral temple until Tang Dynasty. From the Tang Dynasty to the Song Dynasty, it was called the palace. In the Southern Song Dynasty, it was changed into the Yu altar, and then into the palace.
Stele of King Yu
The stele of King Yu is 7 feet high, 5 feet wide and 1 foot thick. The inscription is 77 characters, which looks like tadpole and bird seal. Since the Ming Dynasty, many scholars have annotated the inscriptions. Built in 1935, it has been listed as a provincial cultural relic protection unit in Hunan Province.

Two day tour to Mt. Luo
