Introduction to historic sites
Donglin nunnery was originally named Yue nunnery. The whole nunnery is located in a low valley basin, surrounded by mountains on all sides and green and overcast nearby. It's quiet, secluded and elegant. In the early 1980s, the temple was decorated with a new Bodhisattva, with two new two-story buildings and a simple road. Donglin nunnery is famous far and near, attracting tourists from all over the world to visit or worship Buddhism. In the autumn of 1986, Zhao Puchu, President of the National Buddhist Association, began with "Donglin" and presented a couplet: "Dongzhen is a great place, and the sun and moon are long in the forest."
During the cultural revolution, the Buddhist statues in the nunnery were destroyed, and no one lived there for 13 years. In 1977, the religious policy was restored, and the Buddhist disciples returned to Donglin. From 1984 to 86, Shi Hongyang, the abbot of an temple, raised funds of 10000 yuan in China, Hong Kong and other places, rebuilt the Buddha statues, mountain gates and monk buildings, expanded the original building of more than 300 square meters by more than 1000 square meters, and built a 1.8 km small road leading to Linchen road. In 1986, Mr. Zhao Puchu, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference and President of the Chinese Buddhist Association, wrote a couplet of "Donglin nunnery" in his own handwriting, which is embedded on both sides of the mountain gate. In June 1990, the county government announced that it was a cultural relic protection unit at the county level. In 1992, with more and more tourists, he raised ten thousand yuan to build the gate, car flat and wall of the imitation ancient mountain, and planted thousands of pine and cypress trees around the nunnery. In 1995, he raised a huge sum of ten thousand yuan to rebuild the grand and magnificent hall of the main hall and the small road into the cement road. In 2002, it raised funds and donated 10000 yuan to build a large and magnificent Donglin Shengjing stele square at the intersection of Linchen highway and donglin'an. After more than ten years of transformation and development, Donglin nunnery is managed. The main hall of Guanyin Buddha is full of Buddha statues. It is resplendent in gold and green, with incense and fragrance. It is the most spectacular Buddhist resort in Linwu.
It was first built in the Hongwu Period of the Ming Dynasty. It is said that Mr. Chen Changdao's wife and elder sister are vegetarian and Buddhist all the year round. They often want to become nuns. Because of their deep love for each other, they can't bear to separate. So they built this nunnery and named it "moon nunnery" and made peacock videos. His elder sister here, every month, the green light and yellow candle, morning bell and evening drum, chanting until the pure land.
During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, it was renovated and expanded, but in the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty, it was burned by fire. Because of the unusual appearance of Bodhisattvas, the abbot, master Ni Huiming, was very strange. He lived in a thatched cottage by the side of a Buddhist niche, worshiping the Buddha as before.
At the time of Qianlong's resurgence, Nanfu believers raised funds to renovate it, adding figures such as Tathagata, dengdeng, Maitreya, Weituo, eighteen Arhats and twenty-four heavens to the Liangxiang. There are 28 monks living in the temple. They are surrounded by cigarettes and the bell rings frequently, so the number of visitors to the temple is increasing day by day.
During the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1850), Mr. Chen Mingjiao of Nanfu village built the Mountain Gate alone and inscribed a plaque with the name of "Donglin Wonderland". From then on, the name of Yuean was replaced by Donglin temple. After being harassed by Japanese invaders in 1944, Jingdi still exists. Abbot Ni, headed by master Hongyang, still lives in nunnery. During the "Cultural Revolution", everything in the nunnery was destroyed. All the permanent nuns settled in the production team for 13 years. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee, the religious policy was implemented, and the Buddhist disciples such as mages, fellow practitioners and disciples were encouraged to return to Donglin.
In 1985, under the leadership of master Hongyang, thanks to the strong support of believers, the Buddha statues were rebuilt. In the same year, master Hongyang's younger martial brother in Hong Kong publicized master Hongyang and his converted disciples from all over Guangdong. He gave away all his belongings and donated a lot of money to build a new two-story dormitory building and build a simple road from Nanfu to Donglin nunnery, which made Donglin nunnery take shape. In 1988, master Miaohua of Lantau donated money to build the memorial archway. In 1992, he built Shanmen and Dongping. In order to carry forward Buddhism, master Hongyang led the disciples to participate in Buddhism, and paid equal attention to agriculture and Zen. In 1995, with the support of master Linggen of Taiwan and Hong Kong preacher and the broad masses of believers, the hall of Mahatma and Maitreya, which were on the verge of collapse, were restored, and Buddha statues such as Buddha, Weituo, Ananda and Kaya were rebuilt, making the 600 year old Donglin nunnery a new look. From the temple, the ancient and modern buildings are ready to complement each other; the flowers in the four seasons in the courtyard are delicious; the main hall is full of brilliance and lifelike, which is a solemn and pure land. Outside the temple, there are many beautiful peaks, trees, flowers and birds. Releasing all kinds of fish in the pool, swimming and dancing in front of the Longquan water wave is magnificent. There are many tourists in the four seasons. There is a poem praising "the sound of the morning bell and the evening drum, the sound of the Buddha, the fragrance of the yellow candle and the orchid never sleeps.". Donglin nunnery has become a Buddhist resort in Linwu county.
