history
Fanyin temple, formerly known as Guanyin nunnery, was built in the early Qing Dynasty and has a history of 300 years. At the beginning of the 20th century, the main hall before and after the "Guanyin nunnery" had only three straw covered temples with earth walls, and there were several eastern and Western squatters, all of which were firewood houses, in which more than 20 Bodhisattvas were placed. According to the local old man, from monk CAI to Fangyu and Shengyi, they have passed on for five or six generations. During the cultural revolution, all the bodhisattvas and Bodhisattvas in Guanyin nunnery were smashed by the "rebels", and the monks such as Fangyu and Guangsheng were raised by the neighborhood committees as "five guarantee households". After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1979, the policy of freedom of religious belief was really implemented. However, the original site of "Guanyin nunnery" was occupied by most of the surrounding residents. There were only three grass halls with less than 30 square meters left, which were dilapidated, with few believers and cold incense.
After 1990, the nunnery was presided over by Yang Zhou Zhi Tuo Lin Sheng Yi Shi.
In the spring of 1992, Mr. Chen Huijian, a native of Taiwan, returned to the mainland to visit his relatives. He is a famous Buddhist researcher on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and even in Southeast Asia. On one occasion, his young sun Hanqing occasionally led Mr. Huijian to visit Buddha in an nunnery. When he saw that the activity place of Guanyin nunnery was too narrow, he was deeply moved. After he returned to Taiwan, he wrote an article in dragon tree magazine and proposed that believers in the island donate more than 100000 US dollars to help rebuild Guanyin nunnery, promote Buddhism and increase tourist attractions. Since then, with the strong support of Siyang County Government, in July 1993, in the area under the jurisdiction of the original cotton seed farm on the South Bank of the abandoned Yellow River, 2 mu of 6 Fen net land was purchased for reconstruction. The project started in August and was supervised by Aiqun, the eldest son of Mr. Huijian. It was completed at the end of May next year.
After the completion of the new temple, Guanyin nunnery "changed its name to" fanyin Temple "and held a Grand Buddha opening ceremony on September 5, 1994 (July 30 of the lunar calendar).
Architecture
Fanyin temple is divided into three main halls: front, middle and back. The front hall is the Tianwang hall. As soon as you enter the gate, you will see a smiling statue of Maitreya Buddha. When people see the smiling Buddha, they will think of the profound meaning of the couplets on both sides. The first couplet is: laugh at the ridiculous people in the world; the second couplet is: the belly is big enough to tolerate the things that are difficult to tolerate in the world. Behind the statue of Maitreya is a Dharma protector with a sharp sword. In the temple, there are more than 800 kilograms of big bells and 1.2 meters in diameter drums. At 3 a.m. and 9 p.m., each bell strikes the drum once, and the sound lasts for several miles, which is quite impressive.
In the courtyard of the temple, against the backdrop of two rows of green pines and flowers, a cast iron tripod about 3 meters high stands in the center. The five East rooms are libraries,.
The central hall is the main building in the temple, with green bricks and tiles, cornices and walls, and five red pillars under the eaves. There are three 2-meter-high Buddha statues in the main hall, namely Sakyamuni, pharmacist and Amitabha. The three great Buddhas are resplendent, solemn and kind. On both sides of the three holy statues hanging on the back wall are the eye-catching banners: "sincere, pure, equal, righteous, compassionate, see through, let go, and be at ease.". On the back of the three great Buddhas are statues of Guanyin standing on Aobei, with golden boy and dragon girl standing on both sides, showing the image of universal salvation and great compassion. On the wall of the east mountain of the main hall, there is a marble inscription engraved with the origin of fanyin temple; on the wall of the west mountain, there is a record of 682 Taiwan people's contributions.
The back hall is the "dizang hall", in the center of which is the statue of dizang Bodhisattva, the leader of Youming sect. Along the inner wall, the frame of the dead ashes box was placed. After the death and cremation of Mr. Chen Huijian, there are more than 1000 "relic" and more than 100 "relic flowers", which are now distributed to families and temples on both sides of the Strait. Mr. Chen's relic tower is also stored in the "dizang hall" of fanyin temple. When tourists see the relics left behind by Mr. Chen, which are as colorful as emeralds, they will feel admiration.
The northeast corner of the "dizang hall" is a two-story building. There are three jade Buddhas in the center of the downstairs. The upper floor is the Sutra collection building. Two sets of more than 160 volumes of "Dazangjing" are stored upstairs. It can be said that it is the treasure of zhensi.
