Fajing Temple
Fajing temple, located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, was founded in 597, the 17th year of kaihuang reign of Sui Dynasty.
Historical evolution
Fajing temple, also known as zhongtianzhu temple, is less than half a kilometer away from Fajing temple, located at the foot of Jiliu peak. In the 17th year of kaihuang reign (597), master Bao was founded. Baozhang is an Indian. Because it comes from central India, zhongtianzhu is also called zhongyinfeng.
In the middle of Renshou period (602-603), master Huisheng was ordered to build the first Pagoda in Hangzhou with the Buddhist nunnery. Qian hongchu, the king of Wu and Yue, built a temple in zhongtianzhu, which was called chongshouyuan. The incense was very popular and there were many pilgrims. It became a tourist attraction. Song Zhenghe four years (1114) renamed, Tianning longevity Yongzuo temple. Yuan Tianli years (1328-1329) renamed Tianli Yongzuo temple. The first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1368) was named zhongtianzhu temple. In the 25th year of Jiajing (1546), monks Huiyong, Faqi, Qinglin, etc. raised temple statues and Baiyi Guanyin hall. In the spring of 1765, when Emperor Hongli of the Qing Dynasty visited the south, it was zhongtianzhu temple, yuti temple and Fajing temple. The temple was rebuilt in 1892. At that time, there were Tianwang hall, main hall, houdian hall, dizang hall, molizhi temple, Shenyu hall, Baiyi Guanyin hall, Guizi hall, Tianxiang Pavilion, Zhutian Pavilion, Yushu Pavilion and six rooms for monks to retire from the temple. After the liberation of Hangzhou, the people's government appropriated funds for renovation. In 1958, it was used for other purposes during the great leap forward. In 1981, the municipal government returned it to the municipal Buddhist Association for management. By 1985, the Guanyin hall had been restored. At present, 15 old monks and nuns are living their old age here. Zhejiang Buddhist Association set up a meeting site at the original Yanshou house beside the temple.
