Waishandingzhou
Wai San Ding sandbank, also known as Wai San Ding sandbank, is the largest sandbank along the western coast of Taiwan, with an existing area of more than 100 hectares. Administratively, it belongs to Kouhu Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan County. Nowadays, most of it is located near the open sea of Dongshi Township, Jiayi county.
brief introduction
The main reason is that the sediment of the chuoshui River rushes to the estuary and continuously flows to the southwest to the sea outside Yunlin for many years. However, in recent years, the construction of sand retaining dams has reduced the amount of sand on the sandbars.
Historical evolution
The origin of waishandingzhou is located in the sea off Taixi Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan Province.
In 1914, the Japanese built a lighthouse here for the first time. However, the foundation of the lighthouse was unstable due to the geological factors of the sandbank. After six years of use, the lighthouse collapsed.
According to the data of 1984, the area of sandbanks at low tide was about 1000 hectares, and at high tide was about 200 hectares. The length of sandbanks from north to South was about 10 kilometers
It's shrinking.
Geological characteristics
Influenced by waves and the northeast monsoon, waishanding Island drifts 60 to 70 meters to the southwest on average every year, which is called "drifting territory".
In the early stage, there was a large amount of sediment deposited in the sea area near the estuary, which was formed by the action of waves and currents for many years. In 1911, when the Japanese renovated the chuoshui River and other tributaries of the river, the amount of sand transported decreased sharply, and there was no longer strong sedimentation, that is, there was a trend of erosion and retreat. Scholars have concluded that the "drifting territory" may become the "disappearing territory" in the future if the guarantee is not added.
Construction and population
lighthouse
Longgangdui Lighthouse (waishandingzhou lighthouse): there are many sandbanks in the sea area, so ships are easy to run aground. Different from the general lighthouse building structure, steel frame structure is adopted. Since 1914, the lighthouses in Taiwan Province have been rebuilt the most times.
population
At present, there is only one self built "penny hut", where an old couple live.
House number: No. 201, No. 126, hailiao, Kouhu Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan Province
Natural resources and economy
ecology
The sea area between waishanding island and dongshikou lake is a sandbar or wetland with abundant bird habitat and wetland biological activities.
