Zhongshan Bridge
Zhongshan Bridge in Wuhu City is located at the junction of Jinghu District and Yijiang District of Wuhu City, Anhui Province. It is 306 meters long, connecting Wuhu Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street in the north and Zhongshan South Road in the south. First built in 1947, a large-scale transformation was carried out in 1998. According to the master plan of Wuhu City, a new Zhongshan Bridge will be built at the original site, and the old bridge will be closed and demolished on September 27, 2016. The new bridge was officially opened to traffic on May 9, 2018.
Zhongshan Bridge has a history of 70 years since it was built. Its predecessor was a wooden floating bridge, which was destroyed by water several times and rebuilt again. On October 15, 1947, Zhongshan Bridge, a semi permanent Reinforced Concrete Bent timber bridge built at the original site of Lishe bridge, was completed (it was named Zhongshan Bridge because it was connected with Zhongshan Road in Wuhu to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat Sen's trip to Wuhu in 1912) and was destroyed by flood.
After the liberation of Wuhu, the construction of Zhongshan Bridge was put on the agenda. On April 10, 1953, Zhongshan Bridge was officially completed and opened to traffic, becoming the first reinforced concrete bridge on the Qingyi River in Wuhu. The reconstruction project of Zhongshan Bridge was carried out in April 1997 and completed in October 1998. It was transformed into a tied arch reinforced concrete bridge with a total length of 306 meters and a main deck width of 23.10 meters.
