Tomb of Hai Rui

Hairui Tomb is located at No.39 Qiuhai Avenue (Haihai Rui Road), Longhua District. It is mainly in memory of Hairui, a famous politician of Ming Dynasty. It is a cultural relic tourist attraction and resort displaying the culture and art of Ming Dynasty tombs. It is a key cultural relic protection unit at the provincial level.

Hai Rui memorial hall is also called Hai Rui tomb. Hairui Tomb is located in Xinhua District of Haikou, near Xiuying District, beside Qiuhai Avenue. It is a key cultural relic protection unit at the provincial level.

Hai Rui cemetery was built in the 17th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1589). The emperor sent Xu Ziwei to Hainan to supervise the construction. It is said that when Hai Rui's coffin was transported to the present cemetery, the rope carrying the coffin suddenly broke. People thought that it was the geomantic omen land chosen by Hai Rui, so they buried it underground.

The origin of history

Hai Rui (1514 --) 1587, a native of Jinhua village, Qiongshan City, was named Ruxian, Guokai and Gangfeng. He was appointed Nanping Jiaoyu at the beginning, and later promoted to Chunan County Magistrate and Xingguo County Magistrate. During his term of office, he carried out the policy of "clean Zhang, equal corvee, honest and self reliant".

In the 435 year of emperor Shizong's reign in Jiajing, Ming Dynasty, he was the head of the Yunnan Department of the Ministry of household affairs. At that time, Emperor Shizong trusted the alchemist and devoted himself to the medicine of immortality. Suddenly, no one dared to admonish him for the loss of government. Only Hai Rui was prepared to die, and Yan directly admonished him. He shocked the government and the public. He was dismissed and jailed. After his death, Emperor Shizong was released.

In 1569, he served as governor of Yingtian. During his tenure, he once presided over dredging Wusong River and Baimao River, vigorously promoted "one whip method", which was opposed by Zhang Juzheng and others, and was dismissed and returned to his hometown. Hai Rui was upright all his life. During his official stay, he vindicated some unjust prisons and was known as "Hai Qingtian", also known as "the rebirth of Baogong" and "nanbaogong". At the age of 72, he served as the censor of youjindu in the imperial court of Nanjing. He still tried to punish corrupt officials and died in his residence. After his death, the imperial court gave him eight altars, Shaobao, the crown prince, and Zhongjie. On the day of the funeral, there were thousands of people in Nanjing. Businessmen were on strike, farmers stopped farming, and the public were on the way to attend the funeral.

Solemn and simple

The building of Hairui cemetery is solemn and simple. There is a stone tablet square at the main entrance. The inscription "East Guangdong Zhengqi" is engraved with red and red characters. There is a more than 100 meter long graveway paved with granite. On both sides are stone carvings such as stone sheep, stone horse, stone lion and stone turtle.

There are three stone archways in the middle of the passage, solemn and solemn. Hai Rui's tomb is 3 meters high with a dome and a 4-meter-high stone tablet in front of it. After Hai Rui's tomb, "Yang Lian Xuan" was expanded. Two couplets written by Hai Rui were hung on the pillars of the pavilion. One of them is that "three lives do not change, ice and frost hold, and death always leaves the country.".

There is a "Qingfengge" behind the pavilion, which displays Hai Rui's life story and related cultural relics. The whole cemetery is covered with green grass, green coconut trees, pines, cypresses and bamboos.
