The origin of the predecessor
Guangzhou University
On March 3, 1927, Chen Bingquan, Jin Zengcheng and Wang Zhiyuan founded private Guangzhou University. The school motto is "erudite and conscientious". In April, more than 400 new students were admitted. In the early days of its establishment, private Guangzhou University set up a college of Arts, a law school and a preparatory course, without a president. It adopted a committee system, with Chen Bingquan as its chairman and Dean.
In 1928, Guangzhou University accepted the private Guangzhou Women's middle school and set up an affiliated middle school department. The school is located in Tianxiang street, Guangzhou city. Boys and girls teach in separate classes. In September, the school was moved to No. 19 Wende Road, Guangzhou, where a new high school class was set up.
In August 1930, the old police station in Dongheng street was purchased and rebuilt into a university building, and a science college was added. Subsequently, the University Department changed the president system, with Chen Bingquan as president.
On November 28, 1931, the private Guangzhou University was approved and put on record by the Government Affairs Committee of the national government.
In 1934, Huang Keqin, the president of the University, went to the United States to raise money, rebuild the physics instrument room and laboratory, and expand the stadium. The number of students increased to more than 1200.
In 1937, entrusted by the Ministry of education, he set up a vocational training class for planning and administration, which was designed in Macao, Jiujiang, Qulin, Guilin and Taishan.
In February 1938, Guangzhou University set up a branch in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong. In August, the branch moved to Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon. In October, when Guangzhou was lost, the school moved to Shalang Township, Kaiping. At that time, a secondary school and a planning and administration class were set up in Baima hang Street, Macao, to accommodate out of school youth. During the Anti Japanese War, Guangzhou University successively moved to Kaiping, Taishan, Hong Kong, Qujiang, Luoding, Liaoping, Xingning and other places to maintain wartime education, with more than 5000 students.
In 1939, the Department of sociology and the Department of accounting were set up, and Kong Xiangxi was elected as the honorary director.
In 1941, teachers and students donated more than 500000 yuan to the foundation of the people's Republic of China. The Ministry of education made outstanding contributions to the national foundation of the people's Republic of China.
In 1942, entrusted by the tax bureau of the Ministry of finance of the national government, Guangzhou University organized the tax training class on behalf of the government.
In 1943, in order to support the front line, all the teachers and students enthusiastically donated money and bought a plane, named "Guangzhou University", which was presented by the Ministry of education to the national government and received special commendation from the national government; Chiang Kai Shek wrote a special inscription for the broad masses: "huapu Lingnan". In August of the same year, President Chen Bingquan went to the United States to investigate the wartime economy, and Wang Zhiyuan acted as president.
In August 1945, after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, Guangzhou University was demobilized from Guangzhou and resumed classes at the original site of Dongheng street. After finishing his wartime economic investigation in the United States, Chen Bingquan raised funds for Guangzhou University to build overseas Chinese hall, culture hall, Memorial Hall of filial piety and benediction, science and Engineering Laboratory, library and other buildings.
In 1948, with the approval of the Ministry of education of the national government, Guangzhou University set up the Institute of economics to recruit master of economics. In August of the same year, Chen Bingquan returned from the United States and took charge of Guangzhou University again. This year, private Guangzhou University and its affiliated primary and secondary schools and branches had more than 14000 students, including more than 2800 in the University Department.
In the first half of 1949, the University, with its university department as the main body, set up a college of Arts, a school of law, a school of science, a school of technology, a school of business, an Economic Research Institute, a conference specialized course, a training class for planning and administration, a secondary school and a primary school attached to it, and a "broad middle school" in Hong Kong, Macao and Taishan. Production education was also carried out, and more than 60 mu of school land at the foot of Baiyun Mountain in Shahe was turned into farms.
At the beginning of 1951, Guangzhou University merged with National University, Culture University, Zhuhai University, Lingnan University, Guangzhou law school and Southern College of Commerce to form South China United University. Since its establishment, private Guangzhou University has graduated more than 10000 people.
In 1952, South China United University (the former private Guangzhou University resumed in 1983) was merged.
In April 1983, Guangzhou Vocational University was established in Guangdong Province. It is a short-term, professional college with two years of liberal arts and three years of engineering. In October of that year, the name of Guangzhou University was restored. Ye Xuanping, then mayor of Guangzhou, was concurrently president of the University.
In June 1987, Guangzhou University was established as a vice department level institution.
In 1992, Mr. Zhang Song and Ms. Huang Caixia of Hong Kong yudalong Co., Ltd. donated HK $38 million to build yudalong building as an office and teaching complex.
In January 1993, the Guangzhou Municipal Education Commission issued a document agreeing that "Guangzhou University can link up with the former private Guangzhou University."
In April 1996, the Department of economics undertook the project of cooperation between Guangzhou University and the University of New South Wales of Australia to train master of business students. On November 2, the "Conference on the connection between Guangzhou University and the former private Guangzhou University" was held.
Guangzhou Normal University
In 1958, in order to adapt to the rapid development of industrial and agricultural production, Guangdong formally established Guangzhou Normal University in August 1958, under the leadership of Guangzhou municipal Party committee.
In August 1961, the Guangdong provincial Party committee of the Communist Party of China decided to merge Guangzhou Normal University with Guangdong Normal University under the leadership of the municipal Party committee and the Municipal People's Committee.
Before September 1, 1961, the merger of the two universities was initially completed. The name of the two universities is still Guangdong Normal University, which is a full-time Normal University and one of the key universities in Guangdong Province.
Since July 1962, the enrollment has been stopped and the scale has been gradually reduced. In July 1964, according to the instructions of the higher authorities, it was adjusted and stopped.
In December 1978, the Ministry of Education approved the resumption of Guangzhou Normal University.
In February 1979, the municipal reform committee officially issued a notice that Guangzhou Normal University was under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou culture and Education Office, which was under the management of bureau level units.
In 1983, the University was granted the right to confer a master's degree and set up a master's program in social psychology. In the next year, it enrolled five of the first batch of postgraduates.
In August 1986, Guangzhou Normal University was listed as a department level unit according to the same scale and treatment of provincial full-time undergraduate colleges and universities in Guangzhou.
In April 1993, with the approval of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government, Guangzhou Normal University expanded its scale from 2000 undergraduates to 4000 undergraduates.
South China Institute of construction
In May 1986, Guangzhou municipal government decided to build Guangzhou Urban Construction College on the basis of Guangzhou urban construction staff University.
In January 1987, the State Education Commission approved the preparation for the establishment of Guangzhou Urban Construction College, which was invested by the Guangzhou Municipal Construction Commission.
In June 1991, with the approval of the State Education Commission, Guangdong Construction Engineering College and Guangzhou Urban Construction College (Preparatory) jointly established South China Construction College. The former Guangdong Construction Engineering College is South China Construction College (East College), subordinate to Guangdong Construction Commission; the former Guangzhou Urban Construction College (Preparatory) is South China Construction College (West College), subordinate to Guangzhou Construction Commission. In September of the same year, South China Institute of construction (West College) began to recruit undergraduates.
In April 1995, South China University of construction (West College) became a bachelor's degree awarding unit after being appraised and approved by the academic degree committee of Guangdong Province.
Guangzhou Institute of Education
In 1953, Guangzhou Teachers' spare time training institute was founded. It was named Guangzhou Institute of education in 2000. It is a university that mainly trains in-service middle school teachers and educational administrators.
In 1958, it was renamed Guangzhou Teachers Training Institute.
In 1968, during the cultural revolution, it was renamed Guangzhou people's Institute of education and reduced to a training class.
In 1978, the name of Guangzhou Teachers' Training Institute was restored.
In April 1983, it was named Guangzhou Institute of education. It is a normal university for adults. It undertakes the task of continuing education for in-service middle school teachers and administrators.
Guangzhou Teachers College
In 1985, the Guangzhou municipal government decided to rely on the Guangzhou Institute of education to establish the Guangzhou Normal College, implementing a set of people and two brands, integrating training and training.
