On July 6, 1987, the memorial hall of the Chinese people's Anti Japanese war was completed.
On July 7, 1988, the half view gallery of the July 7 Incident was completed and held its opening ceremony.

On February 24, 1992, the exhibition of selected paintings and calligraphy in the Anti Japanese War Museum opened in the museum. On May 25, the exhibition of wartime Yanan opened in the museum. On July 6, the 55th anniversary of the July 7 Incident was solemnly commemorated by all walks of life in the capital. On September 11, the exhibition "the vicissitudes of Lugou -- Commemorating the 800th anniversary of the completion of Lugou Bridge" opened in the museum.
On February 17, 1994, the Anti Japanese War Museum was designated as a vice bureau level institution by Beijing Municipal Party committee and Beijing municipal government.
On July 7, 1995, the 50th anniversary of the victory of the Anti Japanese War and the foundation laying ceremony of the Anti Japanese Memorial group sculpture in Beijing were held in the museum. On November 6, the memorial Pavilion of the victory of the Anti Japanese War built in the museum with the donation of the Fujian Association of overseas Chinese living in Japan was unveiled.
On May 14, 1996, the mobilization Department of the general staff of the Chinese people's Liberation Army donated a batch of light and heavy weapons to the Anti Japanese War Museum.
On July 7, 1997, the 60th anniversary of the July 7 Incident and the opening ceremony of the second phase of the Anti Japanese War Museum were held in the capital.

In front of the memorial hall of the Chinese people's Anti Japanese war is an anti Japanese War square with an area of 8600 square meters. In the center of the square stands the "Lugou lion" symbolizing the awakening of the Chinese nation.
