Renmin Road
Renmin Road is a north-south main road, South North artery and central axis of Suzhou. It is located in the west of the center of Suzhou. It starts from the intersection of Jinzhuan road and Zhijin road in the north and ends at the intersection of Nanhuan East Road and Nanhuan West Road in the south. Renmin Road is 10.5km long and 40m wide. Except for the section of Renmin Road (Zhuhui road pingmenqiao), which is a two-way four lane road, the rest of the sections are two-way six lane road.
Renmin Road passes through Guanqian business district and Nanmen Business District of Suzhou. Suzhou rail transit has eight stations on Renmin Road from north to south, including pinglong Road East Station of line 2, Pinghe Road Station of line 2 and line 6, beisita station of line 4 and line 10, chayuanchang station of line 4, leqiao station of line 1 and line 4, sanyuanfang station of line 4, Nanmen station of line 4 and line 5, and Renmin bridge south station of line 4.
Renmin Road is also a cultural corridor. Along Renmin Road, there are many historical and cultural relics, such as Canglang Pavilion, Baoen temple, Confucian temple, Yiyuan, etc. on both sides of the main road, many old streets and alleys also contain historical allusions and the leisure days of the common people. Garden culture, former residence culture, bridge culture, street culture Interweave with each other, form a profound cultural heritage, all the way to inherit the context of the city.
In 1951, sanyuanfang and HuLong street were collectively referred to as "Renmin Road".
History of change
1928: the section from Xianghuaqiao to chayuanchang was widened, 7 meters wide, with gravel pavement.
1941: it was widened to Yinma bridge, 9-12M wide, with marble pavement.
1943: newly built Yinma bridge to sanyuanfang section.
1951: from sanyuanfang to Nanmen, the newly built Renmin bridge is 14 meters wide and has a coal dust road surface.
1993: after 42 years of widening, rebuilding and rebuilding, Renmin Road has become a 30-45m wide asphalt pavement. However, the expressways from Zhuhui road to sanyuanfang and from yinmaqiao to DASHITOU lane are small long stone roads.
2000: Renmin Road was reconstructed again, and the remaining square stone pavement was replaced by asphalt pavement.
2003: after another comprehensive reconstruction of Renmin Road, a new "bus lane" was set up.
February 27-december 31, 2016: Taking the opportunity of the completion of Suzhou rail transit line 4, the comprehensive upgrading project of Renmin Road (pingmen bridge Tuanjie bridge) section was carried out. This is the need to build the urban road traffic axis, to show the history and style of Suzhou, and to improve the quality of urban space.

Renmin Road used to be named
Renmin Road, from the north of Shuyuan lane to Xianghuaqiao, was called "Dajie" in Tang Dynasty. Later, it was named "Wolong Street" because it was shaped like Wolong (commonly known as Confucius Temple as the leader and Beisi tower as the dragon tail).
During Emperor Qianlong's southern tour of Suzhou, hundreds of officials of the prefectures and counties took over and escorted here, so it was renamed "HuLong Street".
After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, it was once renamed "zhongzhenglu". Suzhou folk, because every morning, along the street is lined up with toilet (toilet) occupation, so called "toilet Street".

From the entrance of Shuyuan alley in the north to canglangting street in the south, it used to be called "sanyuanfang". In 1781, Suzhou built a memorial archway for Qian Xuan, who was named "Lianzhong Sanyuan". Therefore, the place name and road name of "sanyuanfang" came into being. In the Qing Dynasty, "the number one scholar" was a special product of Suzhou. It's not unusual. Why did he set up a memorial archway for Qian? Because - Lianzhong Sanyuan, that is to say, Jieyuan, Huiyuan and No. 1 in a row. Qian Xuan was the first person to "connect the three yuan" in Qing Dynasty. There were only three in the Qing Dynasty, and only 18 in the whole history of the imperial examination (15 scholars and 3 Military scholars).

1. High standard of municipal construction
The renovation project has realized the expansion of rainwater and sewage pipes, the entry of municipal pipelines into the ground, the reconstruction of asphalt pavement, etc., and all kinds of municipal facilities have been further updated and improved.
In this renovation, all the underground pipelines along Renmin Road have been renewed, and the prospective capacity has also been considered. "If there is no force majeure, there will be no need to change it for 20 years." Cao Nanping is very confident. After the underground reconstruction, the asphalt paving on the ground is of high standard, and three layers of asphalt are used for the first time in the carriageway. Especially in the bus stop, semi flexible asphalt is used for the first time, "which can effectively avoid rutting, bulging and other phenomena."
According to the plan, the facade renovation of the building is designed from the perspective of inheriting the original characteristic landscape of Renmin Road, coordinating the architectural style along the line and the overall environment of the ancient city, according to the ancient rhyme, commercial rhyme, literary rhyme and Shang rhyme. The ancient rhyme section is from pingmen bridge to causality lane, and the buildings are renovated according to the traditional Soviet style; the shangyun section is from causality lane to leqiao, and the architectural style is a combination of modern and traditional; the Wenyun section is from leqiao to Zhuhui, and the historical and cultural landscape along the line is excavated; the shangyun section is from Zhuhui road to Tuanjie bridge, and the architectural style is mainly modern. Through the rectification, the previous problems such as multi-storey shop recruitment, illegal road occupation, mobile electronic screen, and random wall posting have been greatly improved, and all businesses along the line have a new look. The facades of residential buildings and buildings of enterprises and institutions along the line have also been painted. Combined with the renovation, it also eliminated many potential safety hazards such as falling off of external walls of houses, solved many livelihood problems such as roof leakage, external wall leakage and dark corridor, and improved the quality of life of residents along the line.
The exterior walls of the commercial complexes in Guanqian and Nanmen business districts have been upgraded to match the lighting effect of the new construction, creating a strong commercial atmosphere. Combined with line 4, which will be put into operation soon, Renmin Road business will usher in a new mileage and become a fashion base of Suzhou ancient city.
In addition, environmental facilities and all kinds of municipal facilities are designed according to the simple and atmospheric style, highlighting the local cultural characteristics, combined with the elements of Suzhou ancient city. The existing ancient bus stops should be preserved and continued.
