From 1976 to 1977, the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences excavated the site. The site contains human fossils, a large number of stone products, ancient Hornets and abundant mammal fossils. Human fossils include fragments of parietal and occipital bones, teeth and jaws of Xujiayao people. One of the complete right parietal bones is the largest fossil found in China in recent years. Xujiayao people are the descendants of "Beijingers". They migrated westward about 100000 years ago. They met "Datong Lake" and settled here. The culture of Xujiayao people is represented by stone products and bone horn vessels. There are more than 14000 stone products, including scrapers, pointed vessels, carving vessels, stone drills, choppers, stone balls and other forms. Only 1079 stone balls were found, which is rare. Other stone tools are small and fine in shape, which is an important transitional link between Beijing culture and Shiyu culture. There are more than 20 species of animal fossils, including wild horse, rhinoceros, gazelle, gazelle, wild boar, wolf and tiger.
