history

Lihuangpi road is a street in Jiang'an District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. It is named after Li Yuanhong, leader of the 1911 uprising. It runs 604 meters from Yanjiang Avenue in the southeast to Zhongshan Avenue in the northwest, parallel to Lanling Road on both sides. It intersects with Dongting street, Poyang street and Shengli Street in the middle.

The area where Lihuangpi road is located was delimited into Hankou Russian concession in 1897. The road was built by the concession authorities in 1900. Before 1925, it was originally named alexev street and Yima street, belonging to Hankou Russian concession, from Yanjiang Avenue (Yuanhe Street) to Zhongshan Avenue (former Alexandrian Street). The intersection roads include Dongting Street (formerly EHA Street), Poyang Street (formerly Kaitai Street) and Shengli Street (formerly Malin Street).

On the new year's day of 1946, the national government took back the concession and named it Lihuangpi road.

Today, about 17 European style buildings left over from the concession era are still preserved on both sides of Lihuangpi road. Including the former site of Sino Russian Dao Sheng Bank, the former site of Russian patrol house, the former site of Chinese Christian faith building, the former site of American Navy Youth Association, the former site of Russian concession Industry Bureau, the former site of Gao's Hospital, the former site of YMCA, Shunfeng foreign company, Bangke garden, huiluo company, Bagong house, Shoushan hall and Wanguo hospital, etc.

In 1997, the government of Jiang'an District built the street Museum of Lihuangpi road for commemoration. Apartment complex

Lihuangpi road was once a Russian concession. At the beginning of last century, banov, a rich Russian tea merchant, handed over a large piece of land in the area of Sanjiao Street (Poyang Street) to the British. Under the leadership of Jardine Matheson, a British businessman, he built the wheelow company building and the luojiabei Road apartment complex. Among them, the apartment complex located between Lihuangpi road and luojiabei road was specially used for senior staff of Dayang travel in Han Dynasty to rent and live with their families. There were 27 buildings in total. The buildings were adjacent to each other, and connected with each other from the beginning to the end. They formed an unequal hollow triangle frame. The hollow space was opened up into a small garden, which served as a leisure place for the residential buildings in this residential area - the famous luojiabei building in laohankou Jiabei road high class residential area - floating in the urban red dust of a living island.

When I was a child, my family lived not far away from luojiabei Road residential area. This small garden hidden in the downtown remains in children's memory. Half a century has passed quietly. I was surprised to find that the small garden is still hidden in a block that I am familiar with - this is a miracle in the earth shaking contemporary China, because I know there are some A lot of beautiful old buildings and beautiful green space were savagely destroyed.

The garden is located in the middle of the residential area, with a long and narrow triangle, surrounded by green painted iron railings, and two moon doors for people to go in and play. There are several big trees in the garden and several stone benches under the trees. Early summer to shoot that time, thick green shade covered the lens. I remember when I was very young, the garden seemed not to be surrounded by iron bars.

Today, the garden is very quiet. A group of people are not far away to watch people play chess. Someone comes into the garden to walk a brown dog. The distance between the buildings and the garden is the passage for the community residents.

In those days, the residents of each building could see the green trees in the garden from their own windows. In the morning or dusk, they could walk lazily out of their brick and concrete residential buildings, and come to this rare green space in the downtown area to breathe the breath of fresh leaves, flowers and grass. There is no broad independent courtyard For the residents of the apartment type residential area, this small garden is as precious as an oasis in the dry desert. The combination of the residential area and the natural landscape is not only the design of human nature, but also the design of beauty. The original designer fully considered these two important points.

On the outside side of the garden is luojiabei street. Originally, it was just a wider road in the residential area. Now, it has become an important urban traffic road and a temporary parking lot for vehicles. Therefore, it is difficult for people today to appreciate the leisurely and elegant life style of the middle class in luojiabei residential area half a century ago.

As time goes by and time goes by, the old Hankou will never be around a small garden again.
