As early as 1736, Hakkas began to settle in Meinong Town, which has been the rear granary of Kaohsiung since ancient times. The scenic spot in the town is the East Gate Tower, which was built in 1756. After a lot of fire, what is left now is the tower rebuilt in 1950, but it is still full of historical vicissitudes.
At the end of the street behind the gate tower is the altar of uncle. This is Hakka people's unique belief in land. There are more than 400 similar shrines in Meinong and its surrounding areas. If you happen to come to Meinong at the end of spring and the beginning of summer, you can ride to huangdiecuigu, 7km northeast of Meinong. There are more than 100 kinds of butterflies dancing here, which is very beautiful.
Meinong Town
Meinong district is located in the south of Taiwan and administratively subordinate to Kaohsiung City, Taiwan Province. The terrain is mountainous plain terrain, adjacent to Liugui District of Kaohsiung City in the East, gaoshu township of Pingtung County in the southeast, Ligang township of Pingtung County in the south, Qishan District in the West and Shanshan forest region in the north.
