Yazhou Bay is a bay in the southwest of Sanya City, Hainan Province. Ningyuan river flows into the top of the Bay, and Yacheng is located in the estuary area. In the Han Dynasty, general Lu bode and General Ma Yuan had traveled to yazhouwan to pacify zhuya and Jiaozhi (now in the north and south of Vietnam), set up Chengguo, and established the symbol of "Tongzhu Tiannan" in yazhouwan. Master Jianzhen, an eminent monk of the Tang Dynasty, traveled eastward to Japan for the fifth time. He drifted for more than a month in a typhoon. At last, he landed on Yazhou Bay and dried the scriptures on the slope of the coast of Yazhou Bay. The local people have called this slope "Shai Jingpo" for generations, and the rice field that master Jianzhen passed through is called "monk field". Master Jianzhen also built the "Dayun Temple" on the slope of yazhouwan to preach and receive precepts, creating a precedent of Hainan Buddhist culture. These sites are still in use today. Japanese religious and cultural circles have visited Yazhou bay for many times to pay attention to Jianzhen's remains and pursue the site of "Dayun Temple" for cultural exchanges between China and Japan. Huang Daopo, a great cotton textile reformer in the late Song and early Yuan Dynasties and an ancient world-class scientist confirmed by UNESCO, came ashore from Yazhou Bay and left from Yazhou Bay after returning to Japan. Huang Daopo lived in Shuinan Village (now Shuinan village and Dadan Village) on the Bank of Yazhou bay for nearly half a century. She was the outstanding woman who gave birth to this Chinese nation in Yazhou Bay. From the Tang Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty, there were more than 30 prime ministers, ministers, generals, literati and monks who were relegated and exiled to the coast of Yazhou Bay. Yazhou Bay has left their eternal relics and historical stories.
