History and culture
Huangyangtan, located in the southeast of Xuanhua County, is a large beach in the Yanghe River Basin, a tributary of the upper reaches of Yongding River. The terrain of Huangyangtan is complex, high in the southeast and low in the northwest. In the East and south, there are steep rocky mountains, with a width of 13.7 km from east to west and a horizontal distance of 12.9 km from north to south, but the difference is 1128.9 km. The climate condition in this area is poor. It is located in the transition zone between arid and semi-arid. The rainfall is the same period and the light is sufficient. After years of efforts, it has been well managed.
Hundreds of years ago, it was a place with abundant water and grass, luxuriant trees and many animals, so it was called "Huangyang". According to historical records, Li Keyong, king of Jin Dynasty, once raised horses here in the late Tang Dynasty. It is said that in the Tang Dynasty, Li Keyong of Shatuo was granted the title of king of Jin for his meritorious service in the war. Later, he was demoted because he offended his uncle, and his family was assigned to guard the frontier in Xuanhua. Xuanhua was still a barren land in yellow sand at that time. Li Keyong led his 13 sons, who were known as the "Thirteen Taibao". While digging sand to farm, he comforted the people. At the same time, we should recruit and build an army. After that, he led the officers and soldiers to dig out the yellow sand and build a Xuanhua city with a side length of six li and thirteen steps. It is said that Li Keyong has been king of Shatuo since then. There is no record of Shatuo in historical documents, but there are Shatuo tribes and Li Keyong. The Shatuo army led by Li Keyong also went to Xuanhua many times because of the annexation of vassal towns and the war for hegemony in the late Tang Dynasty. At that time, the "Huangyang Beach" was close to the mountains and rivers, and the grass was as green as the grass. In ideal, it became Li Keyong's horse ranch.
The rise and fall of Huangyangtan
Due to man-made destruction and years of war, Huangyang beach has gradually changed from a beautiful girl to an abominable witch. She is constantly making trouble of sand, harming all sides.
In winter and spring, she raised dust all over the sky, whistling all the way to Beijing; in summer and autumn, she formed a rolling mud flow, roaring all the way to the Yongding River. It is rampant, day by day, engulfed farmland, occupied villages, blocked roads, resulting in the rapid development of Beijing's ecological environment, the emergence of a "war under the city" grim situation.
It is said that when Cixi passed Xuanhua, the ancient city, she wanted to go to the southern Berlin Temple to burn incense and worship Buddha, in order to protect the safety of their journey. However, because the quicksand blocked the way at that time, it was difficult for Cixi to make the journey. In the end, Cixi had to go with regret.
In 2001, "sandstorm" was the most rampant year. At the same time, "Huangyangtan" had the highest appearance rate and the most attention. On February 16 of this year, in the capital building, the headquarters of China CITIC Group Corporation, history witnessed such a moment. CITIC Group, Xuanhua county government and Beijing Greening Foundation jointly signed the contract of "cooperative construction and maintenance of green sand control project of Huangyangtan". From then on, a trinity desertification control model with CITIC as the leading role, Xuanhua county government as the main body and Beijing Greening foundation as the technical support has been formed. A few years later, it has been covered with trees and vegetation, but the dazzling scenery in front of us always reminds the world that people who come here for sightseeing should not forget the desolation.
