Lianyuan No.1 Middle School in Hunan Province is a full-time public provincial demonstrative senior high school, which belongs to public welfare institutions.

The school was founded in 1946 on the former site of the National Teacher's office, formerly known as provincial No.15 middle school, and renamed Lianyuan No.1 Middle School in 1952. In 1978, Lianyuan branch of Hunan Normal University was established by borrowing the classroom of Lianyuan No.1 middle school. In 2012, it was designated as Lantian middle school affiliated to Hunan Normal University.

As of December 2014, Lianyuan No.1 middle school covers an area of 16.8 hectares, with 64 high school teaching classes, more than 4000 students and 290 in-service staff

Historical evolution

In 1938, the famous educator Mr. Liao Shicheng founded the National Normal University (the predecessor of Hunan Normal University) here. In 1940, the National Normal University founded the affiliated middle school. In 1944, when the Japanese invaders approached Lantian, the national normal school and its affiliated middle school were forced to move westward to Xupu.

On August 1, 1946, the Department of education of Hunan Province ordered that a provincial No.15 middle school should be set up in Lantian town of Anhua county "to take in Hunan students from other countries' middle schools and distribute demobilized young soldiers for enrollment.".

On September 12, 1949, the forward command post of the Chinese people's Liberation Army in Anhua County appointed Liang Yu as its principal, and the school was taken over by the people's government. In December 1952, the school was renamed Lianyuan No.1 middle school.

In June 1978, the Education Bureau of Lianyuan District transferred 32 cadres and teaching staff from various counties and cities to form a temporary leading group, which borrowed the classroom of Lianyuan No.1 middle school to establish the junior college class of Lianyuan normal school (upgraded to Hunan University of Humanities and technology in 2004)

In 1980, Lianyuan No.1 middle school was designated as "key middle school of Hunan Province", in 2004, it was renamed as "model ordinary high school of Hunan Province", and in 2012, it was designated as "Lantian middle school affiliated to Hunan Normal University"
