history
Nantian island has a vast territory and fertile soil, which is called happy land. It was well developed in Tang Dynasty. In 1387, the Ming Dynasty imposed a strict ban on the sea, and Nantian was listed as a "forbidden land". Until 1573-1619, the people were still not allowed to enter the island to cultivate. In the early Qing Dynasty, the resistance movement led by Zhang Huangyan along the coast of Zhejiang Province was fierce, which lasted for 19 years. Therefore, when the ban on other coastal islands was lifted in succession during the reign of Emperor Kangxi, only Nantian Island remained the forbidden area forever. It was not until October 1875, when Yang Changjun, governor of Zhejiang Province, invited this island to open the ban for five centuries, that it became a historical horror. In 1909, Nantian Fumin hall was set up on the island, and in 1912, Nantian county was set up. In 1940, it was subordinate to Sanmen County and was called Nantian district. During the war of resistance against Japan, the Japanese army invaded Nantian several times, all of which were severely attacked by the local armed forces. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the island was under the jurisdiction of Xiangshan County.
