Taheman Township
Taheman township is located 32 kilometers to the north of Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County, at the foot of "mostag peak", the roof of the world, beside National Highway 314, bordering the Republic of Tajikistan in the west, kirkyar Kirgiz ethnic township in the north and tiznapu Township in the south. With a total area of 831.84 square kilometers and an altitude of 3024-8163 meters. With continuous snow peaks, crisscross gullies and steep mountains, it is a mountainous plateau with crisscross peaks and valleys. The air is dry and thin, and the temperature difference between day and night is large. The annual average temperature is 3.3 ℃, the minimum temperature is - 43 ℃, and the frost free period is about 70 days. It belongs to a typical continental plateau arid desert climate, with an annual precipitation of 69 mm. The main natural disasters are gale, rainstorm, Blizzard and flood.
Taheman township has a Karasu port leading to the country, which is the north gate of Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County, with a very important strategic position. The township is a Tajik dominated, Kirgiz, Han, Uygur common living township. It has four villagers' committees.
Historical evolution
Taheman Township means "surrounded by mountains on all sides", and is named after its location in taheman basin. Before liberation, it was taheman Township in Puli county. After liberation, it was the location of the first district in March 1950; in 1958, it was renamed "mostag people's commune"; in 1959, it was changed into taheman commune; in 1966, it was changed into Yuejin commune; in 1975, it was restored to taheman commune; in 1985, it was changed into taheman township.
