The reason of the construction
The Confucian temple in Jixian County was first built in Sui Dynasty. First, the Sui Dynasty issued an imperial edict to "make the county establish a temple". Jixian County was one of the 36 counties in Yuyang county at that time, so it should be set up in this way. Second, since Sui and Tang Dynasties, Jixian, as an important town in the north, benefited from Confucianism. Thirdly, Confucian culture is the mainstream of Chinese culture, and its ideology is in the dominant position. Therefore, the construction of Confucian temple is also regarded as a righteous act to cultivate the wind, discipline the earth, strengthen the humanities and correct the customs. Jixian, as an important town in the north, naturally needs "complete government offices and temples". It is also inevitable to build Confucian temples.
Construction history
During the reign of the Jin Tian Hui (1123-1135), Zhizhou Gaoji rebuilt the three rooms of Dacheng hall and the East and West veranda. In the first year of Jin Zhenglong's reign (1156), Shi Hengji, the magistrate of Yuyang County, repaired the Confucian temple. In the Ming Dynasty, the Confucian temple had Dacheng hall, East and West veranda, Lingxing gate, halberd gate, animal slaughtering house, God kitchen, God storehouse and other buildings and facilities. In 1376, it was rebuilt. In 1474, it was rebuilt by Wang Pu, the governor of the state, who guarded Ma Xuan. Nine rooms of Dacheng hall were rebuilt, and new statues of sages and sages were created. In the first year of Jiajing (1522), the king of Zhizhou built the Lingxing gate. At the end of Ming Dynasty, the Confucian temple was destroyed by war. In the Qing Dynasty, successive governors Yu Jiqing, Hu guozuo, Dong tingen, Yu Shijin, Zhang chaocong, Zhao Xipu, etc. rebuilt and rebuilt many times. Dacheng hall, halberd gate, Lingxing gate, East and West veranda were rebuilt, and Zhaobi, panchi, Dengying bridge, Minghuan temple, Xiangxian temple, Qisheng temple, Jiexiao temple, Zunjing Pavilion and other buildings were added. During the period of the Republic of China, Dacheng hall, dongxiwei and Lingxing gate were renovated. In the East and west of Lingxing gate, there are two archways (Wen'an street today), namely "de Pei Tian Di" and "Dao Guan Gu Jin". Yanshui Lake in the Confucian Temple of Jixian county is an ancient well in the southwest corner of the second courtyard. Emperor Qianlong named it "Yanshui Lake". It is said that if the literati drink a cup of this well water, they will think like a spring; if they use this well water to study ink, they will be able to write flowers. In ancient times, before the entrance examination, all the students went to the Confucius Temple to pay a visit to Confucius, pray for the gods, and by the way to get the "holy water" from the well, hoping for good luck. In the process of this restoration, all kinds of stone materials were used to pile up beside the well again, and groundwater was introduced to make the dried up ancient well overflow again. Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, there were large-scale activities of offering sacrifices to Confucius in the spring and autumn every year in Jixian Confucian temple. All kinds of rituals were recorded in Jizhou annals by Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty and Jixian annals of the Republic of China. During the Republic of China, the Confucian temple was the seat of Jixian normal school for women. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it has been the first primary school in Jixian since. Jixian has beautiful mountains and rivers, natural culture, and the peak of science and technology. It is said that guangchengzi practiced in Kongtong mountain in the north of the city in ancient times. The Yellow Emperor asked twice here. In the early Han Dynasty, Han Xin's Mou Tu Kuai Che and the hidden Tu Tian Chou in the Three Kingdoms all came from Jixian. Since the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Jixian County has gained a lot of talents and glories; Dou Yanshan, who "taught five sons in Five Dynasties and became famous", and Zhao Pu, the first Prime Minister of Song Dynasty, who "half of the Analects of Confucius ruled the world". In the records of Jizhou in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, 785 people were included in the list of entering the soil, Juren, Gongsheng and Jiansheng. Up to now, the Kuixing tower, Wenchang palace, Xuegong, Shuyuan, kaopeng, Jinshi pailou and other old relics and cultural relics in Jixian city all reflect the ancient Jixian people's custom of respecting Confucianism and Confucius.
Repair purpose
Another purpose of Confucian temple restoration is to excavate its intrinsic cultural value. In history, Confucian temple is not only a place for offering sacrifices to Confucius and promoting Confucianism, but also a place for education since ancient times. There is a special place for education in Confucian temple - Minglun hall. The relevant departments have positioned the Confucian temple in Jixian County as a base for traditional Chinese culture education, moral education and patriotism education, and plan to hold activities such as memorial ceremonies for Confucius every year in the future.
