During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, in order to prevent Xiamen from being conquered by Zheng Chenggong, the Qing government ordered general Shi Lang, the commander of Fujian Navy, to build a city on the beach, named "Chengnei", also known as "Xiacheng". Three hundred years ago, the village in the city was a peninsula with three sides of the sea and one side of the mountain.
The four corners of the world's ancient city is 50 acres, oval shaped, and four gates are set up in the East, West and North. The Guanyin temple, the Wang Yee temple, the heavenly temple and the four ancient temples in Town God's Temple are set up at the gates.
In order to protect the original folk culture of Southern Fujian and promote cultural exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, Xiacheng is committed to the original history of Xiacheng. In early 2012, the government took the lead and Taiwan businessmen invested to jointly develop an ancient town with folk characteristics of both sides of Fujian and Taiwan.
