Historical evolution

School background

After the September 18th Incident in 1931, Northeastern University was forced to move to Peking.

In February 1936, Northeastern University moved to Xi'an again.

In March 1938, because of the continuous war of resistance against Japan, Northeastern University moved to Caotang temple, Santai County, Sichuan Province, and the old Tongchuan University.

In 1945, after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, Northeast University moved back to Shenyang.

In May 1946, with the support of ten salt farms in thirty-six counties of northern Sichuan and people of insight from all walks of life, some Sichuan Teachers and students of Northeastern University established private northern Sichuan College of agriculture and technology in the original site of Santai, with seven departments of Agronomy, agricultural economics, chemical engineering, civil engineering, business administration, mathematics, and water conservancy.

The evolution of University

In December 1949, the private North Sichuan College of agriculture and technology was renamed private North Sichuan University. The College of Arts and business, the College of science and technology and the College of agriculture and engineering are set up, and two departments of Chinese and philosophy and history are added.

In July 1950, private North Sichuan University and private North Sichuan College of Arts merged to form a public North Sichuan University.

In August, the school moved from Santai County to Nanchong City. In September, the public North Sichuan University was renamed North Sichuan University and moved to Nanchong City, Sichuan Province.

In September, it was renamed North Sichuan University. Five one-year specialized departments of water conservancy, civil engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering and mining will be set up.

In October 1952, it was renamed Sichuan Normal University. There are five departments of Chinese, history, chemistry, mathematics and physics and corresponding majors.

In August 1956, the undergraduate major of the College moved to Chengdu (now Sichuan Normal University), and the junior college remained in Nanchong, renamed Nanchong normal college. The Department of biology and corresponding specialties were added.

In November 1958, it was renamed Nanchong Normal University. Four departments, including foreign language, geography, physics and politics, are added, with a total of nine departments and corresponding majors.

In June 1966, the leading group of Cultural Revolution in Nanchong Normal University was established.

In 1979, the school began to recruit graduate students.

On January 9, 1989, the name of Sichuan Normal University was restored.

On April 16, 2003, it was renamed as West China Normal University.

On July 2, 2020, he will join the Art Alliance of colleges and universities in Chengdu Chongqing economic circle.
