Yanjiang ancient town

Where there are rivers, there are many ancient towns. There is an ancient town of Yanjiang on the Bank of Youjiang River in Long'an county. The town was built in the 39th year of Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty and has a history of 234 years. It is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with mottled buildings. The winding Youjiang river passes through the town. It goes up to Baise, reaches Nanning and Guangzhou, and reaches the sea. It used to be a place for North and South merchant ships to shuttle and park. At that time, merchants gathered together, known as "Little Hong Kong" and "little Shanghai".

Now the ancient town has become a tourist attraction, attracting tourists from all over the world to look for the footprints of time and feel the marks of prosperity in the past.

Walking into the ancient town, there are neat three story arcades on both sides of the street, connecting families. The dark yellow walls set off the scenery of the ancient town like old photos, full of the flavor of vicissitudes. The name of the carving and signboard on the upper floor is already unclear. Sitting under the eaves of the arcade, Mrs. Yu Yunfei, 86, recalls that when she was a child, there were many shops in the ancient town, including inns, foreign oil, rice, boat nails, cloth, salt and fruit.

On the edge of Yanjiang wharf, which is less than kilometers away from the ancient town, there is an old Wenwu temple, which is also a witness of the prosperity of the ancient town. Standing on the Wenwu temple to see Youjiang River, due to its unique geographical location, you can only see the water from the upstream, but not the water from the downstream. The local people mean "only money comes, but not money goes". When travelling merchants come here, they have to go into the temple to burn incense, pray for a wide range of money and peace. In the past, the Wenwu Temple covered a large area with splendid temples. Now there is only one small hall left. Every year during the street building Festival on May 13 of the lunar calendar, people also go to the Wenwu temple to offer sacrifices. Usually, many parents come to pray for their children to study well.

After walking out of the Wenwu temple, about 5 kilometers northwest, you can get to xiatantun, Fuyan village. There are two wells with clear and cool mountain spring water, which never dries up. It is said that more than 1700 years ago, Zhuge Liang led a southern expedition here. Because the original drinking water source was poisoned by the enemy, Zhuge Liang asked people to dig two wells here, so this well is also called "Kongming well". It is said that on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, the seven fairies will come down to Kongming well to take a bath. If they take the well water back on this day, they can pray for good luck for a year. This custom has not changed.
