Historical evolution
At the beginning of the school
After the founding of new China, in order to meet the needs of large-scale socialist construction, in 1952, the central government carried out a nationwide adjustment of colleges and departments according to the policy of "focusing on the cultivation of talents and teachers for industrial construction, developing specialized colleges and universities, and rectifying and strengthening comprehensive universities". The Department of geology of Peking University, the Department of Geosciences of Tsinghua University, the Department of geological engineering of Tianjin University (formerly Beiyang University), the geological group of Mining Department of Tangshan railway University (now Southwest Jiaotong University) and the Department of geology of Northwest University merged to form the predecessor of China University of Geosciences, Beijing Institute of Geosciences.
On November 1, 1952, the first opening ceremony of Beijing Institute of Geosciences was held in duanwangfu Jiadao, Beijing. Li Siguang, a famous Chinese geologist and Minister of geology, said in his speech: "now new China has set up earth shaking undertakings. Beijing Institute of Aeronautics is earth shaking, and Beijing Institute of Geosciences is earth shaking. You are the warriors of the earth You are the new father-in-law and mother-in-law of the land. On behalf of the Ministry of geology, I congratulate you. " The hope of the leaders and the expectation of the predecessors make the students love the geological cause more. The university decided November 7 as the "anniversary day" of Beijing Institute of Geosciences.
On May 17, 1957, Comrade Liu Shaoqi met with representatives of graduates of the college in Zhongnanhai and had a cordial conversation for more than three hours. He said: geologists are "guerrillas in the construction period". If we want to build, we need to engage in geological exploration and fight "guerrillas". You are guerrillas, scouts and vanguards in the construction period.
In 1960, the University was rated as "Beijing Red Flag College of culture and education front", and ranked among 64 national key universities established by the State Council.
Years of Cultural Revolution
In August 1968, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued the notice on sending propaganda teams to schools. On August 25, the propaganda team of the workers and the people's Liberation Army entered Beijing Institute of Geosciences and took over all the work of the school. They carried out the so-called "fighting, criticizing and reforming" activities, such as criticizing and uniting the school, establishing the Revolutionary Committee, cleaning up the ranks of the class, and reorganizing the party. The intellectuals were severely damaged, resulting in many unjust and wrong cases.
Since November 15, 1969, more than a thousand teachers and workers have been sent to the May 7th Cadre School of jiangrenhe commune in jiangxixia to receive "re education" with their families and families.
In the five years from 1966 to 1970, the school stopped recruiting students. The perverse actions of the gang of four made the cause of higher education suffer a catastrophe.
In 1970, 13 of the original 46 universities in Beijing were forced to move out, mainly geological, mining, agriculture and forestry universities. The school was one of the victims, making the school worse.
Since then, the school has entered a state of turbulence and displacement. In the rush to move, the equipment, books, specimens, teaching documents and other losses, teaching staff lost a stable place to live, the beautiful campus was eroded and occupied.
Reconstruction and revitalization
Relocation to Hubei
In 1970, it was the general trend for schools to move out. The school sent people to Shaanxi, Jiangxi, Gansu, Hunan, Hubei and other places to investigate the site selection.
In May 1970, the military representative of the State Administration of geology approved the relocation of Beijing Institute of geology to Shimen County, Hunan Province. In view of the hasty decision-making, on September 18, the State Administration of geology issued the reply on the capital construction of Beijing Institute of Geosciences moving to Jiangling County, Hubei Province, and agreed to change the plan to move to Shimen County, Hunan Province to Jiangling County, Hubei Province. The school was renamed Hubei Institute of geology.
Address: Wuhan
In 1975, it moved to Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, and changed its name to Wuhan Institute of geology.
In 1978, Wuhan Institute of Geosciences set up the Beijing Graduate Department of Wuhan Institute of Geosciences in the old campus of Beijing.
In November 1981, with the approval of the State Council, the University became one of the first batch of doctoral and master degree awarding units in China.
In 1987, the State Education Commission approved the renaming of Wuhan Institute of Geosciences as China University of Geosciences, with its headquarters in Wuhan and Beijing.
On December 6, 1997, the State Planning Commission approved the formal establishment of the 211 Project of China University of Geosciences with the reply to the feasibility study report on the 211 Project of China University of Geosciences (js246l) and determined its construction scheme.
In February 2000, the University was under the management of the Ministry of land and resources, and the university entered the rank of institutions of higher learning directly under the Ministry of education.
In March 2005, the headquarters of the University was abolished, and Wuhan and Beijing independently run schools.
In October 2006, the Ministry of education and the Ministry of land and resources signed an agreement to jointly build China University of Geosciences. In the same year, the "innovation platform for advantageous disciplines" declared by the University was approved by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of finance, and China University of Geosciences officially became a part of the construction of the national "innovation platform for 985 engineering advantageous disciplines".
In 2016, the ocean College of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) was officially established.
In September 2017, China University of Geosciences was selected as one of the first batch of world-class discipline construction universities in China.
