synonym
Shijiazhuang Earth Science Museum generally refers to the Earth Science Museum of Hebei University of Geosciences
The geoscience Museum of Hebei University of Geosciences was founded in 1954 in Xuanhua University. It is a University Museum relying on the disciplines and specialties of Hebei University of Geosciences and serving for teaching and scientific research. It is one of the few natural science museums in Hebei Province.
Museum collections mainly come from the long-term accumulation of related disciplines, including rocks, minerals, gemstones, minerals, fossil specimens and models. It shows the mysteries of the universe, the structure of the earth's sphere, the internal and external dynamics of the earth, all kinds of igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks, jewelry and jade, mineral specimens and mineral specimens, and all kinds of paleontological fossils left in the process of the earth's evolution.
According to the information on the official website in April 2018, the building of the museum is a five storey frame structure with a building area of 3080 square meters. It has more than 20000 collections and more than 8000 exhibits. The museum is open to teachers and students free of charge and has received 200000 visitors
.
Historical evolution
In 1954, the geological exhibition hall of Xuanhua School of Geosciences opened, with an exhibition area of 400 square meters and a collection of about 10000 specimens. In 1956, the exhibition area of the exhibition hall was expanded to 800 square meters, and Mao Pengfei was responsible for it in 1963. During the "Cultural Revolution" period, the museum was forced to close down, resulting in a serious loss of specimens.
In 1970, about 15000 specimens were transferred from the geological warehouse of the Ministry of geology. After Xuanhua School of geology was upgraded to Hebei Institute of geology in 1971, the geological exhibition hall was opened to teachers and students and free of charge to the society, receiving an average of 5000 primary and secondary school students every year.
In 1988, the geological museum was renamed as the Geological Museum of Hebei Institute of geology. In 1990, the museum moved to Shijiazhuang campus with the school. In 1996, the school changed its name, and the museum was renamed as the Earth Science Museum of Shijiazhuang University of economics. However, due to the shortage of buildings, only a temporary exhibition hall with an area of 300 square meters was set up.
In 2006, the university decided to build a special Earth Science Museum, which took only five months from the start of construction to the completion of the exhibition. In 2016, the museum was renamed as the Earth Science Museum of Hebei University of Geosciences

Exhibition hall display
survey
According to the floor distribution, the Earth Science Museum of Hebei University of Geosciences has set up four permanent exhibition halls.
The hall of the universe and the earth focuses on the origin and composition of the universe and the earth;
The hall of rocks and minerals displays three kinds of rocks and mineral specimens;
The Department of gems and minerals mainly displays natural gems, artificial gems and various mineral resources;
The hall of dinosaurs and paleontology displays the skeletons of nine dinosaurs, the origin, classification, characteristics, evolution and extinction of dinosaurs, and the rare fossils of the origin of life and various stages of biological evolution
.
Space and earth Hall
The hall of the universe and the Earth shows the origin and composition of the universe and the earth, as well as the internal and external dynamic geological processes of the earth.
The order of Zhengting entry is the origin of the universe, the composition of the solar system, the origin of the earth and the moon, and the structure, physical properties, age and evolution of the earth. The east side of the exhibition hall mainly introduces the internal dynamic geological processes, such as seismicity, magmatism, orogeny and plate movement. The south side mainly introduces the external dynamic geological processes such as weathering, denudation, transportation and sedimentation.
According to the official website in April 2018, the exhibition hall has 35 models and 53 pictures on display
.
Rock and mineral Hall
The rock and mineral hall mainly displays rock and mineral specimens.
According to the three major rock types, the rock specimens display various types of magmatic rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks. According to the chemical composition and crystal structure, the mineral samples can be divided into five categories: natural elements, sulfides and their analogues, oxides and hydroxides, oxysalts and halides. The mineral specimens are arranged according to the above categories.
At the entrance of the exhibition hall are the precious mineral samples presented by Premier Wen Jiabao in 2003, which are magnetite, celestite, garnet, wolframite, kyanite and asbestos.
According to the official website in April 2018, 1071 rock and mineral specimens and 100 pictures were displayed in the exhibition hall
.
Department of gems and minerals
The Department of gems and minerals mainly displays gems, jades and specimens of mineral resources.
The north half of the exhibition hall displays specimens of jewelry and jade. Jewelry jade is a general term of natural gems and artificial gems. Natural jewellery is the essence of nature, including natural gemstones, natural jade and natural organic gemstones. Artificial gemstones are the crystallization of human wisdom, including synthetic gemstones, artificial gemstones, gemstones and recycled gemstones. Gems and jades are displayed according to their categories, among which diamonds, aquamarine, taffei, jadeite, Hetian jade, water gall agate, chicken blood stone and other gems and jades are of great value, supplemented by modern acousto-optic means such as lighting, rotary table and electronic explanation screen, so that viewers can better understand the knowledge of gems and jades, which increases the interest and popularity of the exhibition hall.
The southern part of the exhibition hall displays specimens of mineral resources. The exhibition hall is specially set up with a mineral resources distribution wall, which indicates the distribution of China's main minerals with indicator lights. By pressing the corresponding button, we can see the distribution of China's main minerals at a glance. The specimens are displayed according to the categories of ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, precious metals, non-metallic and energy minerals.
According to the official website in April 2018, 889 specimens and 115 pictures were displayed in the exhibition hall
.
Dinosaur and paleontology Hall
The fourth floor of the hall of dinosaurs and paleontology displays a new dinosaur fauna in the late Cretaceous (96 million-65 million years) discovered, excavated, restored, studied and shelved by teachers and students of Hebei University of Geosciences, which is a collective scientific research achievement of independent innovation.
There are nine dinosaur skeletons on display in the exhibition hall, including the unusual Huabei dinosaur, the Yang's tianzhenlong, the Cheng's tianzhenlong, the Hu's tianzhenlong, the Sichuan dragon, the monoridged dragon, the Manchurian dragon, the parrot billed dragon, and the Tyrannosaurus Rex, which can be called the Jiulong hall. "Unusual huahualong", "Yang's tianzhenlong", "Hu's tianzhenlong" and "Cheng's tianzhenlong" belong to the first class key protected fossils, among which "unusual huahualong" and "Yang's tianzhenlong" are the type specimens of fossil nomenclature.
According to the official website in April 2018, there are about 4000 dinosaur eggs, dinosaur footprints, other dinosaur fossils and some reptile fossils on display in the exhibition hall, with 63 pictures
.
Paleontology exhibition area
The five storey paleontological exhibition area displays the representative fossils of the origin of life and various stages of biological evolution, especially the very precious fossils of the early Cretaceous Jehol biota, including invertebrate corals, brachiopods, molluscs, trilobites of arthropods, insects, mesophylls, shrimps and crabs; vertebrate fishes: sturgeon and wolffin; amphibian toads and salamanders; crawling In particular, there are more than 10 precious small theropods, ornithosaurs and dinosaur fossils; there are also many parrot billed dragons and a variety of bird fossils; one parrot billed dragon is nearly two meters long, which is extremely rare at home and abroad; the mammals include the primitive Zhanghe beast and Rehe beast.
In addition, there are also marine reptiles, Triassic Guizhou dragon, ichthyosaur fossils and various ancient plants, which are extremely precious and of high research value
.
