Taiwan Temple Art Museum

The Taiwan Temple Art Museum attached to Yunlin County Cultural Center includes a main Museum (Temple Museum) and two auxiliary museums (Puppet Theater Museum and statue Museum). The Temple Museum covers the largest area and is divided into 19 areas to introduce Taiwan temples. The themes displayed in the Temple Museum range from the relationship between the temple and the development of Taiwan, temple fair activities, to colorful paintings, embroidered flags, etc.

Located in Yunlin County Cultural Center, Taiwan Temple Art Museum systematically introduces the artistic beauty of Taiwan temples and traditional puppet shows. Temple is not only a place for peace and happiness, but also played an important role in centralization of the central force, maintaining local security and governing culture in the early stage of Taiwan's immigration. Its exquisite wood carving and painting also represented the essence of southern China's architecture. And the puppet opera is the most common opera performance in the temple festival occasions, from the vivid way of performance to the vivid carving puppet, has high artistic value.

The puppet theater is another important theme museum. There are more than 200 puppets in the museum. The exhibition is mainly classified according to the types of puppets. There are exquisite scenes of stage, color building and puppet. There are legendary novels such as journey to the West and the list of gods, temple fairs such as three immortals and Eight Immortals crossing the sea, and puppet stars such as Shi Yanwen, cangjingren and secret carving. Most of them are biographies Some of them are as high as 2 or 3 feet. The helmets, shoes, weapons and other accessories worn by puppets also represent loyalty, treachery, good, evil, Wensheng, Wudan and other identities. In addition, the scripts, cailou, stage, leather drum and suona used in early performances are rare and precious.

At the back of the puppet theater is the statue Museum, which displays more than 100 statues of gods commonly seen in Taiwan's belief, such as Mazu, GuanShiYin, Wangye, Guanshengdijun, fudezheng, etc. among them, the more special one is the "60yuanchen God", which is commonly known as the value of the age of Taisui. The museum displays the production process and carving tools of the statues in a step-by-step way.
