Xumi pagoda of Kaiyuan Temple
Kaiyuan Temple is located in the west of Changsheng street in Zhengding County. It was first built in 540 A.D. (the second year of Xinghe in the Eastern Wei Dynasty) and was named Jingguan temple. In 591 A.D., it was renamed jiehui temple.
During the Kaiyuan period of Tang Dynasty, it was rebuilt and renamed Kaiyuan Temple. Later, it was repaired in song, Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are Xumi pagoda and bell tower in the temple. Xumi pagoda was built in Tang Dynasty. It is a square brick pagoda, so it is commonly known as brick pagoda or square pagoda. It is 16 feet (about 53 meters) high and is divided into nine levels. Below it is a square stone base, and there are eight stone statues at the four corners of the ground floor. There is an arch in the front, the tower is hollow tube shape, open up and down, no steps climbing. There are square doors on the front of each floor, Fengduo hanging on the four corners, and a gourd shaped tower brake on the top. The shape of the brick tower is simple and dignified, showing a typical architectural style of the Tang Dynasty. The bell tower in the temple is a rare Tang Dynasty building in China. There is a bronze bell hanging on the upper floor, which is also a relic of the Tang Dynasty. It is of great value to the study of the history of Chinese ancient architecture. In 1956, the people's Government of Hebei Province listed Kaiyuan Temple as a key cultural relic protection unit at the provincial level.
