Development history of Jindou Bay

At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang adopted the policies of encouraging the development of wasteland, cultivating farmland and building water conservancy. Driven by agriculture, textile, porcelain making and mining industries have also made great progress.

After the establishment of the Ming Dynasty, the construction of Xiangshan changed again. In the fourteenth year of Hongwu, Xiangshan county changed its township to Fang or Du: Renhou township was divided into renhoufang and liangzidu, Deqing township was changed into Longyan, Yongle township was changed into denang, Changle township was changed into sizidu, Shuining township was changed into dazzidu, fengle township was changed into guzidu, Chang'an township was changed into gongchangdu, Ning'an township was changed into Dalan, Guhai township was changed into Huangqi, Chaoju township was changed into Huangliang, with a total of 11 Fang All.

In ancient times, there lived a cowboy on the beach of Jindou Bay. When he was a child, his parents died, and only an old cow lived with him. At that time, there was not a river that could lead to the sea in Jindou Bay. In case of heavy rain, it was flooded and silting could not be discharged, so the life of the farmers could hardly go on. One night, the old fairy gave him a dream and said to him, your old cow is a god cow. Tomorrow morning, you put the cattle on the plow and drive them to the sea. Pay attention to go straight ahead, don't look back, and don't rest. In this way, the plough path of cattle will become a big river. If you complete this great event for the benefit of the people, I will protect you as the "King" in the future!

The next morning, the cowboy drove the cattle to the sea with great interest. But he was lazy by nature and tired after a short time. In order to get to the beach as soon as possible, he didn't want to press the plough deep into the soil. Instead, he tried his best to whip the cattle, hoping that the faster the cattle went, the better. The old cow was afraid of being beaten. Every time the whip shadow swayed, his body flashed to the side. As a result, the ploughway became crooked, deep and shallow, and piles of cow dung were pulled down along the way. The more tired the cowboy was, the more impatient he was. When he got to the beach, he whipped the bull wildly. Niu Shi couldn't bear it. He broke away from the rope and ran all the way. Finally, he jumped into the sea and turned into an island in the sea. In this way, the cowboy failed to complete the task assigned to him by the gods. The ninety-nine bend of the river could not effectively drain the water. On the contrary, piles of cow dung turned into small mounds, which blocked the channel. Since then, the annual flood in Jindou Bay has been harmed until the 20th century when the irrigation and water conservancy was carried out. As a result, the cowboy finally failed to become a "King", leaving a nickname in the folk, which is called "cowboy king".

The legend of jindouwan is actually the Xiangshan version of the legend of "creating heaven and earth". It can only appear in the early Ming Dynasty when the main body of fish and salt turned to agricultural society. At the same time, it also shows that one of the profound influences of the peasant uprising in the late Yuan Dynasty is the contempt for the traditional concept of "divine power granted by heaven": since the shepherd Zhu Yuanzhang can be emperor, why can't the cowboys in jindouwan also be emperor?
