The colorful music fountains, colorful night lights, evergreen cold season lawns and colorful square flowers make up a beautiful picture; the old people who exercise in the morning, the children who play and the square pigeons who forage leisurely make up the harmonious urban landscape of human and nature.
history
Yiling square is a railway dam. Here is a record of the vicissitudes of modern Yichang history. This place is desolate and uninhabited. It used to be called a place where ghosts fight. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, it was planned to build the Sichuan Han railway. This is the end of Yiwan section of Hanchuan railway. In 1903, a commercial company was established in Sichuan. In 1911, in the name of the state-owned railway, the Qing government borrowed money from the bank groups of the United States, Britain, Germany and France to sell the right of way, which caused public indignation and set off the movement of protecting the railway, which became the fuse of the revolution of 1911. After the founding of the Republic of China, it returned the private shares to the government. As the chief engineer of Yichang Wanzhou section of Sichuan Han railway, Zhan Tianyou came to Yichang twice to take charge of road construction. In order to facilitate road construction and material delivery, the 7.5km railway line from Ba to xiaoxita was laid and opened to traffic. But later, because of the accident, the railway tracks, sleepers and other equipment that had been paved were removed and used in Hankou. As a result, in the decades before the founding of new China, the Zhongchuan Han railway was not paved with a rail, and the railway dam, just like the pier left behind, became the site of this period of history. After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, the Kuomintang army and Yichang county government built an airport here. On January 24, 1938, the airport was bombed by the Japanese army, six planes were destroyed, and more than 200 migrant workers who were repairing the airport were killed and injured. It was at this airport that the three sisters of the Song family took off and landed when they flew from Chongqing, the capital of the Song family, to Yichang to relieve the children in need and to express their sympathy to the officers and soldiers of the Anti Japanese front line. In 1940, Yichang was occupied by the Japanese army, and the airport was not repaired after it was shelled by the Kuomintang army the following autumn.
infrastructure
With the attention of Yichang municipal Party committee and government and the strong support of the people of Yichang, the square was built in the railway dam. The square was built by selecting 5 plans from more than 20 plans. After public voting and expert argumentation, the plan designed by Shanghai Landscape Design Institute was finally selected. Because of inheriting the history and culture of Yichang's ancient name and reflecting the regional characteristics of Yichang, the square was named "Yiling square". The square adopts the main and auxiliary axis composition, full open design, highlighting the theme of greening, the night scene as the feature, and the purification of the environment as the focus. With a total investment of more than 25 million yuan, 852 garden lamps, lawn lamps, pole lamps, spotlights, searchlights, colored lamps and other lamps are set up; a set of music fountain, background sound, automatic sprinkler irrigation and other equipment are set up; 15 flower beds are set up; more than 1000 square pigeons are raised; 282 trees of 14 species in 8 families are planted, with a green space rate of 57.97%. Since its opening to the outside world, Yiling square has always maintained four seasons of grass green, flowers in full bloom, bright lights and clean and quiet ground. With an average daily reception of more than 10000 people and tourists, it has been named one of the "top ten scenic spots in the city" and "new landscape of urban construction in Hubei Province". Won the title of "national top ten tourism square".
