Yantai Museum

Yantai museum was founded in 1958, with two existing sites. The former site is located in Fujian guild hall (Yantai Folk Museum), a national key cultural relic protection unit, and the new site is located in the new museum at 61 South Street. The new museum, with a construction area of 17000 square meters and a total investment of 160 million yuan, is located at the westernmost end of Yantai Central Cultural Square. It was approved in 2007 and started construction in 2009. The whole building is divided into one floor underground and four floors above ground. It is a comprehensive modern museum which mainly reflects Yantai's human history, culture and art, including cultural relics storehouse, multifunctional lecture hall, hall, exhibition hall, teahouse, 4D cinema, office area, reading area, etc.

In 2017, it was promoted to the third batch of national first-class museums.

Historical evolution

On June 18, 1958, the cultural branch of Yantai Municipal People's Committee issued a document to establish Yantai Museum.

In December 1962, the original Yantai District Museum was established, located at No. 72, North Street, Yantai City (Yongchang silk house before the founding of the people's Republic of China).

In 1964, Guo Moruo personally inscribed the plaque "Yantai City Museum".

In 1978, the former Yantai Museum and Yantai exhibition hall merged.

In 1983, the original Yantai area was changed into Yantai city. In January of the next year, the local and municipal museums were merged into a Municipal Local History Museum. It is a branch level institution with two brands of Yantai cultural relics management committee. The museum is mainly located in the Fujian guild hall and its new warehouse office building. There is 590 square meters of archaeological herbarium at No. 9 Caishi street, and 2000 square meters of archaeological herbarium at No. 61 South Street Exhibition Center and office area.

In June 1984, after the land reform, the former Yantai Museum and Yantai regional museum were merged to establish the current Yantai Museum.

In June 1999, Yantai exhibition hall was canceled, and 18 staff of the original exhibition hall were transferred to Yantai Museum. On October 16, the staffing of Yantai museum was adjusted to 50, and the new staffing was used to arrange the cadres and staff of the original municipal exhibition hall.

On July 4, 2002, the organization standard of Yantai museum was adjusted from section level to deputy department level.

On November 30, 2006, 15 people from Yantai cultural relics store were transferred to Yantai Museum.

On September 13, 2007, the construction of the new museum of Yantai City started.

On December 25th, 2008, the organization specification of Yantai museum was adjusted from deputy department level to department level.

On May 18, 2017, it was promoted to the third batch of national first-class museums.

Exhibition display

Basic Display

Ancient charm of mountains and seas: ancient history and culture of Yantai. Based on the cultural relics in the collection, the exhibition presents the development process of Yantai area from the Paleolithic age to the late Qing Dynasty, as well as the marine culture, Laiyi culture, bronze culture and other diversified cultures with distinctive regional characteristics through the five parts of "early dawn of prehistory", "rise and fall of Donglai", "prosperous fairyland", "cultural harbor" and "coastal defense key".

Exhibition of "the road of the century": with rich historical relics, brand-new exhibition methods and advanced scientific and technological means, starting from the ancient biological population living in Jiaodong mainland 100 million years ago, it successively shows the historical development process of Dongyi civilization, ancient state of Zhou Dynasty, coastal defense important place, Yantai Port opening, anti Japanese War and Yantai liberation.

Thematic display

In the original site of Yantai Museum (Fujian guild hall), there are three special exhibitions, including Mazu culture, furnishings of folk houses, and the East tour of Yangzhu and Qinshihuang; in the new museum, there are six special exhibitions, including ink painting, xulinlu Art Museum, porcelain garden Duoying, Shengmo craftsmanship, Danxin nostalgia, and ancient money today. In addition, there are many temporary exhibition halls, The total exhibition area is more than 7000 square meters.

Collection

Through system reform, collection of cultural relics, archaeological excavation, social donation and other means, Yantai museum's collection of cultural relics has been increasing in categories and quantity. As of May 2014, its collection of cultural relics has reached more than 50000 pieces. Among them, there are more than 6000 precious cultural relics above grade 3 and 62 grade 1 cultural relics, which is one of the most abundant museums in the province. These cultural relics include not only the handed down art treasures, but also the historical artifacts unearthed from archaeological excavations, including more than ten categories of ceramics, jade, bronze, iron, calligraphy and painting, silk and miscellaneous. They are precious material materials reflecting the historical development of Yantai and have important protection and utilization value.

Hold activities?

Yantai Museum launches temporary exhibition of "the haze under the pen"

On December 29, 2011, Yantai City Museum launched the temporary exhibition of "the haze under the pen". This exhibition mainly displays the scrolls, fans and albums of calligraphy and painting works in the collection. The exhibition includes Lan Ying's painting of clouds and trees at dusk, a first-class national cultural relic, and Wang Duo's cursive Tang poetry.

Collection of snuff bottles in Baotou

In June 2014, the exhibition of snuff bottles in Yantai museum was held in Baotou. This special exhibition mainly displays more than 100 snuff bottles made of glass, jade and ceramics. Among them, a carved jade snuff bottle was unearthed from the tomb of Wang chonglie, the second son of Wang Yirong, a patriotic scholar in the late Qing Dynasty.

The special exhibition of "mirror reflects the past and the present" was held in Yantai Museum

From March 14 to April 19, 2015, the special exhibition of "Ming Jing Zhao Gu Jin" was held in Yantai Museum. More than 80 pieces of exquisite bronze mirrors collected by Yizheng museum were exhibited in the exhibition, which were composed of Warring States bronze mirrors, Han bronze mirrors, Tang and song bronze mirrors, yuan and Ming bronze mirrors, etc.

"National treasure entering enterprises" tour

In September 2015, Yantai City Museum held a "national treasure into the factory enterprise" exhibition tour. This activity is mainly in the form of picture and text display board and staff explanation to reproduce the "ten treasures of town museum" among the cultural relics in the Municipal Museum. Across thousands of years of history, the exhibition board covers calligraphy, painting, porcelain, bronze, jade and other categories, reflecting the essence of cultural relics in the museum. The pictures of cultural relics on display are not only the most precious cultural relics in Yantai Museum, but also "national treasure" cultural relics. The purpose of this tour is to let the workers of factories and enterprises feel the charm of the motherland's treasures from a distance.

Organization setup

Office: responsible for the daily management of party affairs, personnel, young workers and women, family planning and retirement affairs.

Exhibition Department: responsible for the development of the annual exhibition plan and the overall planning, feasibility analysis, expert argumentation, negotiation and implementation of the exhibition; responsible for the content and form design of the exhibition and other aspects of image design.

Propaganda and education service department: responsible for audience reception, guide and explanation; using news media and network to carry out various forms of external publicity; responsible for website revision, content audit management, etc.

Collection management department (with the brand of cultural relic science and Technology Protection Center): responsible for the management of the collection in the warehouse, performing the duties of receiving, registering, cataloging, filing, entering and leaving the warehouse; checking and recording the preservation environment of the cultural relics in the warehouse and exhibition hall every day, coordinating and solving the problems found in time, etc.

Security department: responsible for the establishment, improvement and implementation of various fire and security systems; responsible for the management of security team, security and fire prevention of cultural relics storehouse, exhibition hall, open area, office area and buildings; responsible for the public safety of the audience.

The Department of archaeology is responsible for the business guidance of museums and cultural relics management offices in the city; assisting the Bureau of cultural relics in guiding and supervising the protection and management of cultural relics in the city; guiding and supervising the daily protection and management of cultural relics protection units at all levels in the city according to law; responsible for the rescue and protection of cultural relics in capital construction projects in the city.

Technical property department: responsible for the management and maintenance of communication network, computer and internal LAN; responsible for the production and release of virtual scenes in the library.

Fujian guild hall management department (with Yantai Folk Museum Brand): responsible for the safety and fire control of the guild hall; responsible for the internal and external exhibitions, audience reception, guide explanation, property management; responsible for the opening and management of the Folk Museum.

Ticket Service

Yantai museum is free to visit, if there is a special exhibition will be charged separately. Visitors can get tickets with valid certificates (ID card, officer card, senior citizen card, student card, passport, etc.) and enter the museum after security check. Booking visitors need to provide the details of the booking before they can collect tickets.
