Runyang Yangtze River Bridge is located on the west side of Zhenjiang and Yangzhou in Jiangsu Province. It is the largest span composite bridge in China. In the process of construction, it has overcome many worldwide technical problems.
Construction started in 2000 and completed in 2005.
At that time, the bridge was a modern super large bridge project with the largest engineering scale, the highest construction standard, the largest investment, the most complex technology and the highest technical content in China, and it was the first combined bridge with both rigidity and flexibility in China.

Runyang Yangtze River Highway Bridge starts from Yangzhou South Ring Road in the north, crosses Shiyezhou in the Yangtze River, and ends at Zhenjiang 312 National Highway Interchange in the south, with a total length of 35.66 km. The bridge deck is a two-way six lane Expressway with a design speed of 100 km / h. The total investment of the project is 5.81 billion yuan.
Construction process
After investigating the situation around Zhenjiang and Yangzhou ferry, Wang Zhong, a Yangzhou scholar in the Qing Dynasty, wrote a proposal on building a floating bridge at Jingkou, which proposed the idea of building a floating bridge between Guazhou Jinshan Zhenjiang, and became the initiator of building Runyang Yangtze River Bridge.
In 1919, Dr. Sun Yat Sen, the great pioneer of China's democratic revolution, planned two Yangtze River bridges in his book industrial plan. One is the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge in the middle reaches, and the other is the Zhenjiang Yangzhou Yangtze River Bridge in the lower reaches. This is the first person who proposed to build a modern Yangtze River bridge between Zhenjiang and Yangzhou.
In November 1992, Jiangsu provincial transportation planning and Design Institute started the pre feasibility study of Zhenjiang Yangzhou Yangtze River Highway Bridge (now Runyang Yangtze River Highway Bridge).
In March 1998, the former State Planning Commission of the people's Republic of China approved the proposal for Zhenjiang Yangzhou Yangtze River Highway Bridge project.

Runyang Yangtze River Highway Bridge starts from the South Ring Road of Yangzhou City in Jiangsu Province in the north, crosses the North-South branch channel passing through Shiyezhou, and ends at the national highway 312 of Zhenjiang City in Jiangsu Province in the south. It connects Beijing Shanghai Expressway, Ningtong first-class highway, Huning Expressway and NInghang expressway, as well as two famous historical and cultural cities of Zhenjiang and Yangzhou.
As of April 2018, Yangzhou Liyang expressway has passed through Runyang Yangtze River Highway Bridge.

Runyang Yangtze River Highway Bridge is a combined bridge including two long-span cable bridges and their approach bridges. The whole bridge is composed of North connection, North Branch bridge, Shiyezhou interchange viaduct, South Branch bridge, South connection and extension section. The main bridge of South Branch is single span double hinged steel box girder suspension bridge, and the North Branch is three span double tower double cable plane steel box girder cable-stayed bridge.
From the appearance, the main cable of the South Branch suspension bridge of Runyang Yangtze River Highway Bridge is curved, like a graceful girl, while the cable of the North Branch cable-stayed bridge is tight, like a strong young man.

As of April 2005, Runyang Yangtze River Highway Bridge is about 60 km away from Nanjing Second Bridge in the West and 110 km away from Jiangyin Bridge in the East, with a total length of 35.66 km.
