geographical position
Erzu temple is located in the northwest of Taihu County, 80 kilometers away from the county seat of niuzhen town Xueyi River lion mountain (also known as erzu mountain). history
The second patriarch temple has a long history. According to historical records, during the southern and Northern Dynasties, in order to avoid sectarian struggle, Huike, the second patriarch of Zen Buddhism, led his disciples to travel southward and live in seclusion in the remote Dabie Mountains. Zhuo Xi built a Buddhist temple on the sachet stone of Jiulong Mountain (renamed Shizishan at the end of the last century) in the northwest of Taihu county to receive disciples and preach. Huike's thought of Zen came from Dharma, especially Dharma's four volumes of lenga Sutra, which paid attention to reading wisdom but not language. Its basic purpose is to "forget words and thoughts, and have no correct view". After Huike's collation and promotion, this thought has a great influence on those who study Zen. Later, he passed on the Dharma to the three ancestors, then to the four ancestors and the five ancestors. So that Zen Buddhism is widely carried forward in West Anhui, Jingchu area. It has been shining for thousands of years. The people in Taihu mountain area highly respect and protect Huike and his disciples. They have made great contributions in raising mountains and fields to build the Zen hall. The wooden statues of the second ancestor, stone couplets, plaques, one hundred bronze signboards of the second ancestor temple, tablet inscriptions, incense burner, etc., which were saved by local people during the cultural revolution, were returned to the temple. The stone of chess playing, erzu cave, bukuen spring and zhuoxitan are still the same. Lion mountain has always been known as the second ancestor fairy mountain. This poem was sung by Huike, the second ancestor, when he went to Jiulong Mountain. Up to now, people can recite it word by word.
Introduction to eminent monk Huike
Huike (AD 487-593), the original name of the Buddha Shenguang. Before he converted to Buddhism, he was very accomplished in Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. In order to seek truth and enlighten all living beings, he went to Longmen Xiangshan temple in Luoyang, became a monk according to master Baojing, and received precepts in yongmu temple. In order to deeply seek the Mahayana doctrine of selflessness and the Hinayana doctrine of self liberation, he meditated all day in Xiangshan temple and practiced hard for 8 years. When master Baojing saw that he had been practising for a long time, "he will get the right result", which prompted him that the great master Bodhidharma, the great master of Tianzhu, had a profound way of life and should be your master. Shenguang followed his teacher's instructions and went to Shaolin Temple to pay homage in the morning and evening. But Dharma sat face to face and turned a blind eye. The divine light thought to himself: the predecessors sought Tao and went through all kinds of hardships It was snowing heavily that day. Outside the temple, the snow was knee deep, but he was more respectful. Master Dharma then turned back and asked him: why do you stand in the snow all night? So the divine light cried bitterly and said: May the master be merciful and open up a Dharma like manna, so as to broaden the scope of all living beings. However, master Dharma said in a tone of reprimand: to ask for the supreme Buddha's wonderful Tao, you have to go through countless years of hard work and practice, and you have to go through a lot of hard work, hard work and hard work. With your little virtue and wisdom, you will want to get the real Tao with a slight attitude. I'm afraid you've wasted your mind! After hearing the rebuke, Shen Guang took out his sharp knife, cut off his left arm and sent it to the master to show his sincerity and determination. So master Dharma thought that he could be a magic weapon to take on great responsibility, and changed his name to Huike. Nine years later, before Dharma's death, he passed on four volumes of the lenga Sutra, the seal of Buddha and the cassock to Huike, and paid Faji: "I originally came here to save my lost feelings. If a flower has five leaves, the fruit will come naturally. " The spread of Zen Buddhism to Huike, the second ancestor of Dharma, then to sangcan, Daoxin, Hongren and Huineng, the third ancestor of Buddhism, really proves Dharma's Dharma.
Origin of the second patriarch Temple
During the Tianping period of the Eastern Wei Dynasty (535-537), Huike inherited the mantle of Dharma and went to Xinye in the north to teach Zen. Learning is like a stream, and those who come will not give up. At that time, the Zen master Daoheng also said in yedU that there were more than a thousand disciples. Because of the difference between the Buddhism and Huike, he was afraid of robbing his disciples, so he hated them very much. In the second year of Tianping (535), Huike got monk can as an apprentice and depended on each other. Shi Huike, considering the situation at that time, instructed Seng can to "be in the deep mountains, but not in practice". In this way, Seng can and Huike broke up and went to Shuzhou to live in seclusion in Wangong mountain (Tianzhu Mountain). Huike came to lion mountain and stayed in hulushi cave. This stone is very strange, only the bottom is connected with the stone wall, protruding from the cliff, with a cloud on the top and no ground on the bottom. It is precarious, and can only accommodate one person to sit down. This is where the second patriarch first came to the south. It was called "the second patriarch's niche". Later, a temple was built beside the cave, which was called "the second patriarch Temple".
Structure of the second patriarch Temple
There were three kinds of Buddhist halls in the second patriarch temple. Couplet: triple Buddha Hall, eternal town. After Dharma, he was passed on as a monk and a Buddha. Cultural relics include the "second Ancestor Buddha" and "Shixiang stove". The scenic spots on the mountain named after the second ancestor include the meditation place of the second ancestor, the Zen bed of the second ancestor, zhuoxitan, buganquan and other relics. For thousands of years, the Zen Hall of the second patriarch has been popular. It was not until the "ten years of Cultural Revolution" that the Zen hall was destroyed. Fortunately, the statues and some cultural relics of the second Ancestor Buddha in the hall were saved by local villagers. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the second patriarch temple was built. Zhao Puchu, a well-known social activist, an outstanding patriotic religious leader, former vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and President of the Chinese Buddhist Association, inscribed the plaque of "the second patriarch Temple" in May 1985. In 1991, in order to restore the origin of the second ancestor's Taoist center, he was appointed as honorary director. When he went back to his hometown to inspect the second group of Taoist centers (collectively referred to as Shizishan and Sikong mountain), he said: "Shizishan is an extraordinary mountain, the mountain is a Buddha, and the Buddha is a mountain." "Without Huike, there would be no Chinese Zen. This not only affects the whole Chinese culture, but also gradually affects the world culture. " With the restoration of the second patriarch's temple, the second, third, fourth and fifth patriarch's Daoism became a popular Buddhist resort.
