Lippo Centre
Designed by Paul Rudolph, Libao center has a total floor area of 97575 square meters. It is composed of two octagonal buildings and platforms. Each building is 42 and 48 stories high and is divided into three sections. Each section of the floor extends from the central trunk, and adopts multi plane design to facilitate the installation of dodecagonal windows. Between the top part and the bottom of each section, the canopy room extends from the multi floor to form a very unique design pattern. Libao center, formerly known as Benda center, was acquired by Libao group after the collapse of Benda group. Because its shape is similar to the koala climbing trees, former owners such as Alan bender nicknamed koala.
Architecture Overview
Libao center is located in central, Hong Kong, which is the third largest in central with the head office building of Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and the Bank of China building. Libao center is connected with the central public transport point through the pedestrian overpass to solve the pedestrian traffic problem. A large entrance hall is set up in the base part of the 4th floor, creating a soothing space in the crowded central environment.
Structural details
The center is composed of octagonal twin towers and base, with a building area of 97 575 square meters. One twin tower has 36 floors and the other 40 floors. On the facade, 10 floors are divided into three sections, and the concave convex complex volume is used to form a unit composition. Some floors are designed as convex on hexahedron in different directions, so that part of the office space is suspended outside the building to increase the visual interest. This one is cut horizontally into three parts: head, chest and abdomen. From a distance, it looks like two robots nestling together. Close up, it looks like a building with three-dimensional ice blocks overlapped from bottom to top. Its shape not only increases the imagination of pedestrians. And such as in the middle of the hot summer road through Libao center. The scorching sunlight is refracted by the cold glass curtain and projected on the ground, interwoven into a cool sea of light and bathed in it. The heat of the head and the fire of the heart suddenly cooled.
Reflective glass for exterior wall. The complex shape enables the glass curtain wall to reflect light and the surrounding scene from multiple angles. Even in cloudy days, the two buildings are bright and dazzling. The base part of the facade falls directly to the ground with 12 huge columns, and the platform with horizontal lines at the bottom is interspersed between the columns.
There are also many changes in the building plan, from octagonal to dodecagonal, and the floor area varies from 559 square meters to 1160 square meters. With the facade segmentation, the ceiling room is set at the top and bottom of each section, which has a special space effect.
